William "Bill" Nagy Jr.

William “Bill” Nagy, Jr. passed away peacefully on Monday, August 28, 2017 at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 27, 1931 in Detroit, Michigan, son of the late William and Anna (Darbos) Nagy, Sr. Bill grew up in the Detroit area and graduated from Henry Ford Trade School in 1949. He joined the United States Air Force and served as Staff Sargent on Guam during the Korean Conflict. Bill married Anna Brock on September 7, 1955 in Lincoln Park, MI. She preceded him in death on December 5, 1961. Bill worked for M J Electric starting in 1960 on various projects across Michigan and Wisconsin and became a partner in 1964, moving to Iron Mountain shortly thereafter. He retired as Senior Vice President in 1991, but remained active on the Board of Directors until the sale of the company in 2000. He married Bonnie Olson on September 19, 1987 in Duluth, MN. Bill was a member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Michigan Maple Syrup Association, and IBEW Local #692 out of Bay City, MI, where he was a member for over 50 years. He was an avid Detroit sports fan, especially the Lions, and he and Bonnie often attended games at Ford Field. Bill enjoyed many hunting and fishing adventures throughout North America with friends and family. He also enjoyed the outdoors and many hunting seasons at his Dear Kamp in Iron County. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, especially cooking with them. For many years, he made maple syrup, which he shared with family and friends. He enjoyed gardening with his daughter Cindy and always waited in anticipation of the first red tomato of the season. Bill and Bonnie enjoyed traveling across the United States looking for the best barbeque or seafood. They wintered in Santa Fe for many years. They also enjoyed several trips to Alaska. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; four children, William (Kim) Nagy III, Cynthia Nagy, Thomas (Connie) Nagy, all of Iron Mountain, and Laura (Davis) Burgess of Kittredge, CO; nephew Michael (Dian) Miller of Iron Mountain; two step-children, Christine (Donald) Gabbert of Kingsford, and Robert (Melanie) Randall of Minneapolis, MN; one sister, Anita Franckowiak of San Antonio, TX; 10 grandchildren, William Nagy IV, Ian (Kenny Garvin) Nagy, Thomas (Samantha) White, Andrew White, Elisabeth White, Jennifer Nagy, Jessica (Jordan) Clarke, Chloe Gabbert, Jack Gabbert, and Samuel Randall; and four great grandchildren, McKenna, Isaac, Evan, and Wyatt. Bill was preceded in death by his sisters, Irene Miller and Mary Franckowiak, a brother, Nick Nagy, and nephew Patrick (Laurel) Miller. Visitation will be on Thursday, August 31, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home. A private funeral Mass will be held Friday, September 1, 2017 at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. Burial will be in Cemetery Park.
