Sylvia Schinderle

IRON MOUNTAIN - Sylvia Schinderle, 96, of Iron Mountain, died on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford. She was born on June 13, 1913, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Theodore and Freda (Berglind) Norgren Nordquist. She worked at Crystal Lunch for many years in Iron Mountain. She married Michael M. Schinderle on Dec. 16, 1940, in Iron Mountain, and he preceded her in death on June 5, 1970. Together they resided on their farm just north of town until 1968. Sylvia worked in the kitchen doing many things at the Iron Mountain Senior Center for more than 23 years, she loved her work. Sylvia was a lifelong resident of Iron Mountain. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She loved all animals. She especially loved to feed the birds, and had a pet bird for many years. In her earlier days she loved to read, cook and bake. Sylvia is survived by her daughters, Dolores (Kenneth) Hamby, Dorothy Schinderle, Theresa (Mike Vivio) Schinderle, and Sheila (Mark Jacobson) Schinderle, all of Iron Mountain; sisters, Gladys Mattord of Iron Mountain and Audrey Chaplis of St. Charles, Ill.; sister-in-law, Evelyn Schuman of Two Rivers, Wis.;12 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 19 great- grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Michael R. Schinderle;, a son in-law, Ferdinand Tauscheck Sr.; and a brother, Theodore Norgren. Visitation will be Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Tondin-Ross & Freeman Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. The funeral Mass will be held at 1 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Msgr. James Kaczmarek will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in the Iron Mountain Cemetery Park. Robert "Bob" Salzczenko, Timmy Tauscheck, Francis Schinderle, Gary Schinderle, Michael Geronimi Jr., and Mark Jacobson will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory.
