Robert "Bob" Bauer

Robert “Bob” Louis Bauer, 88, of Hardwood, passed away at Oscar G Johnson Veteran’s Hospital in Iron Mountain, on Friday, November 11, 2016, Veterans Day. He was born July 1, 1928, in Iron Mountain to the late Hannah (Strauss) & Joseph Bauer. Bob grew up & lived in Hardwood. He joined the United States Army in 1950, proudly served his country during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged as a Corporal, December 1952. Bob married Mary McGuire in Escanaba on June 20, 1953. They spent 63 wonderful years together in Hardwood, working very hard on their farm & raising their family. Bob is survived by their children: Marilyn (Carl) Steinbrecher, Mike Bauer, & Jeff (Brenda) Bauer; Grandchildren: Kris(Lindsey) Steinbrecher, Chad (Becky) Steinbrecher, Angie (Jon) Jungwirth, Travis (Becca) Steinbrecher, Jeremy (Laurel) Bauer, Stacy (Paul) Dani, Amanda Bauer (Bill McNew), Tyler Bauer & Derick (Brooke) Collins; Great grandchildren: Maia, Aly, Izzy, Julia, Lucas, Kathryn, Brady, Lauren, Carli, Vincent, Madalynn, Carson, Bella, Michael, Nickolai, Landon, Leelan, Liam, Larissa, Shay, Kenzie, Caleb & Donald; Brother: Richard(Phyllis)Bauer; Brothers in law: Roy(Bonnie) McGuire, Marvin(Barb) Casperson, Lem LaBonte; Sisters in law: Linda (Richard) Lantagne, Sharon McGuire & Donna McGuire; Many friends, nieces, nephews & cousins. Bob was preceded in death by his wife & best friend on October 15, 2016. He was also preceded in death by a son: Donald; Sister: Dorothy (Martin) Quarnstrom; Brothers in law: Willie (Diane) McGuire, John McGuire & Richard McGuire; Sisters in law: Margaret Casperson, Ethel LaBonte, Dianna (Stephan) LaBonte. Bob was a very hard working man & loved the land. At times he proudly spoke of how hard his mom & dad worked as he was growing up, a trait they obviously passed on. Bob worked in the woods in early adult years, also later with his sons & operated Bauer Brothers Potato Farm with his brother. When retiring from potato farming & woods work, he spent many more years working at Steinbrecher Potato Farm, which he thoroughly enjoyed, as he could continue doing what he was passionate about. He worked until he was 85 years old. Bob was always willing & wanting to help others, could fix almost anything & always carried his pliers in his pocket, just in case! He was a very honest, humble, patient & kind man who never spoke a bad word about anybody. He enjoyed spending time with family & friends, working on the farm & tinkering around home, playing cards, & listening to good old country music with his wife Mary. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers. A Military Graveside burial service will be held on Thursday, November 17th at 12:00 noon at Foster City Cemetery. Following the service, lunch will be at the Felch Community Center.
