Richard C. Olsen

Richard C. Olsen, 84, of Homestead, WI, went peacefully to his Lord and Savior on Monday, August 28, 2017, surrounded by his family. Richard was born on December 20, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois. He is the son of the late Harry and Sadie (Kristiansen)Olsen. Richard graduated from Kelvyn Park High School and attended Wright Junior College. He served for 2 years in the United States Army and 6 years in the Army Reserves during the Korean conflict. Richard was stationed in Japan and worked as a decoder in intelligence and communication until his honorable discharge in 1961. Richard married Barbara Sjoquist on October 27, 1956 in Chicago, IL. They resided in Chicago for two years before settling in Homestead to raise their family. Richard worked for many years as a butcher at the co-op in Aurora and at Northern Products sawmill before retiring. After his retirement, he worked for several years at Super One Foods. Richard was a member of the Homestead Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent and youth group leader for twenty seven years. His greatest joy was spending time with his family Richard is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Barbara; sons, James Olsen of Florence, Glenn Olsen of Homestead and Kevin (Julie) Olsen of Homestead; grandchildren, Brock, Caleb, Jennifer, and Nathaniel; brother, Harry Olsen of Davenport, IA; brothers in law, Lloyd (Geri) Sjoquist of Nekoosa, WI and Donald (Rosemary) Sjoquist of Kingsford; sisters in law, Carol (Robert) Lohr of Homestead and Gloria Sjoquist of Kingsford; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Clifford and Vera Sjoquist; sister-in-law, Kari Olsen, and brother-in-law, Norman Sjoquist. Visitation will be held Friday September 1, from 10:00-1:00pm at the Homestead Baptist Church. Funeral services will be Friday at 1:00pm at the church. Pastor Seiya Asanuma will officiate. Burial will be in the Homestead-Aurora Cemetery.
