Rene R. Savoie

Rene R. Savoie, 82, of Iron Mountain, passed away on Saturday, April 27th at his home. Rene was born on September 20, 1936 in Rudyard, Michigan. He was the son of the late Rene and Cecile (Gagnon) Savoie. Rene grew up in the Eastern Upper Peninsula and was a graduate of Sault Ste. Marie Catholic High School in 1954. He continued his education and earned his degree in Pharmacy from Ferris State University. Rene married Priscilla Fornnarino on April 12, 1958 at St. Mary’s Church in Sault Ste. Marie. Rene has been a practicing pharmacist in this area for more than fifty years. He owned and operated Ace Drugs for many years. After selling his business, he worked at The Drug Store in Iron Mountain and most recently the Walmart Pharmacy. Rene was a member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Church in Iron Mountain and a lifelong blood donor. He enjoyed golfing and playing cards at the casino. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family. Rene is survived by his wife of 61 years, Priscilla; children, Stephen (Susan) Savoie of Traverse City, MI, Laura (Brian) Briggs of Lake Elmo, MN and Gregory (Vanessa) Savoie of Richfield, MN; sisters, Agnes Trudgeon of Grayling, MI, Alberta Poland of Longmont, CO and Evelyn (Robert) Mitchell of Frederick, CO; brother, Harvey Savoie of Milwaukee, WI; brother-in-law, Joseph (Judy) Fornnarino of Tavares, FL; and grandchildren, Nicholas, Kenneth, Marie and Riley Savoie. In addition to his parents, Rene was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister. Visitation will be on Friday, May 3rd from 9:00-10:30 am at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Friday at St. Mary and St. Joseph Church in Iron Mountain. Fr. Janusz Romanek will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made in his memory to St. Mary and St. Joseph Church in Iron Mountain.
