Norman Flemington

Norman Flemington KINGSFORD - Norman Flemington, 81, of Kingsford, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004 at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain. He was born on Sept. 9, 1923, in Birmingham, Mich., son of the late Herbert and Alice (Clausen) Flemington. Norman graduated from Baldwin High in Birmingham. He served with the United States Air Force in England from 1943 to 1946. He married Nora M. Kolstad in 1946. She preceded him in death in 1986. Norman graduated from the University of Oregon with a bachelor of science degree in 1950. In 1952, he was recalled by the U.S. Air Force and then discharged in 1954 as a 1st Lieutenant. Norman started Hunt Roofing Co. in Iron Mountain in 1960. He was a former member of the Rotary Club, Chippewa Club, Camp Neverlost, and a Deacon at First Presbyterian Church. Norman owned Nora K Antiques. He was the executive vice president of Miller Products and Supply from 1973 to 1988. He married Connie Balzola on Oct. 8, 2003. Norm felt very blessed by the many good things given to him in life. He loved to hike and marvel at God's creations. Gardening was one of his passions and sharing his produce with others greatly pleased him. He praised God in song in his church choir and in the community chorus and musical productions. His hobby as an auctioneer, associations at work, social activities and coffee time with the guys filled his life with many enduring friendships. He felt most blessed by his family, and his love for his children and grandchildren were a constant joy for him. Norman is survived by his wife, Connie Balzola of Kingsford, his children; Laurie Flemington (El Mostafa Gharra) of West Bloomfield, Kevin (Cheryl) Flemington of Long Beach, Ind., Patty (Mic) Holmes of Whitefish, Mont., and Erik (Cathy) Flemington of New Orleans, La.; children on Connie's side, Peter Balzola of Iron Mountain, Paul (Kelley) Balzola of Marinette, Wis., and Patty (Walter) Moore of Phoenix, Ariz. ; sisters Barbara Palmquist of Troy, Phyllis Hicks of Rochester, and Janice (Knut) Erichsen of Birmingham; grandchildren on Norman's side, Norman and Sally Wroblewski, Jamie and Kristen Flemington, Kelsey and Shannon Holmes, Samuel and Allison Flemington; grandchildren on Connie's side, Jim, Tony, and Justin Balzola, Nick, Michael, Sami, and John Paul Balzola. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews. Norman will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nora, and brothers Clinton and Herbert Flemington. Visitation will be on Sunday, Nov. 14 from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. at the church. Rev. Michael March will officiate. Memorials can be made to the Dickinson County Cancer Unit or First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford.
