Maxine Hack

Maxine D. Hack, 81, of Iron Mountain, passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2011, at Freeman Health and Rehabilitation Services in Kingsford. Maxine was born June 24, 1929, on the family farm in Eglon Township, Clay County, Minn., daughter of the late David and Ella (Olson) Sellin. She married Roy Hack in 1966 in Duluth, Minn. Together they relocated to Kingsford in 1966. Roy preceded her in death in 1973. Maxine was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Iron Mountain and a member of the Michigan Association for Family and Community Education. She worked for many years as an administrative secretary for J&R Electronics, retiring in 1999. Maxine also worked at the Breitung Township polls during election time and volunteered at the American Cancer Society. She enjoyed gardening, canning and traveling. Maxine loved spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her sons, Joel (Tanya) Ditty and Lance Ditty of Iron Mountain; stepsons, Barry (Wendy) Hack of Superior, Wis.; Gary Hack of Duluth; stepdaughter, Sharon Field and a son-in-law, Blair Daugherty of Kingsford; seven grandchildren, Dr. Marc (Julie) Ditty, Tony Ditty, Patrick Daugherty, Michael Daugherty, Peter Daugherty, Devon Daugherty, and Susan (Jake) Bestman and two great-grandchildren, Olivia Daugherty and Max Bestman. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Maxine was preceded in death by her daughter, Jacqueline Daugherty of Kingsford; three sisters, Hazel Sellin, Avis Dickey and Fern McBride; and a brother, Gordon Sellin. Visitation will be held today from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be on Wednesday at 11 from First Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain. Rev. Lee Liverance will officiate. Burial will be in the Quinnesec Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory to the American Cancer Society.
