Marie H. DeMuri

Marie H. DeMuri, known by everyone near and dear to her as Nona, 94, of Iron Mountain, passed away on Sunday, August 26, 2018 at Maryhill Manor in Niagara. She was born May 9, 1924 in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Ignatz and Lena (Schwenner) Warmuth. Marie graduated from Felch High School in 1942 and went on to attend St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Milwaukee, WI where she earned her degree as a Registered Nurse. She married Guido DeMuri on June 25, 1949 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. He preceded her in death on May 7, 2012. They enjoyed 62 years of marriage and to celebrate their 50th anniversary they enjoyed an Alaskan Cruise with family. Marie was employed at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital as a RN for nearly 20 years, retiring in 1987. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church. She was active with the Parent Teacher Association while her girls attended the Immaculate Conception School. When her girls were young she was a leader for their Girl Scout and Campfire Troops as well as camp nurse for many years. She was a member of the Paisano Club as well as being involved with the Dickinson County Right to Life. Marie enjoyed playing canasta with friends & relatives, reading, and watching sports, especially football. She loved spending time with family and going to her grandchildren’s sporting events and activities over the years. Marie loved to cook and took great pride in feeding others. No one ever left her house hungry. Marie always welcomed neighborhood children and they would enjoy help with homework, ice cream floats, and she frequently served as the neighborhood nurse. While at MaryHill Manor she enjoyed the activities they provided, some of which included bon fires, singing, and musical entertainment brought in by MaryHill. She enjoyed playing crazy 8 with her family and other residents that became like family to her. She is survived by daughters, Janet (Bob) Fredy, Anne Jarvis and Mary Beth (Bruce) Casanova, all of Iron Mountain; her sister, Gertrude Koller of Iron Mountain; grandchildren, Bob (April) Fredy, Mark (Claudine) Fredy, Cheryl (Jason) Hubbard, Angela (Mike) Budai, Allison (Tony) Saulino, Andrea (Jason) Jakubik, Andrew and Emily Casanova; and fourteen great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Marie was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Al Jarvis; three brothers, David, Frank and Carl Warmuth; a sister, Dolores Warmuth; and many dear brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be at 9:00 am on Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Msgr. James Kaczmarek will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park. Marie’s grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, donations in Marie’s memory may be made to the MaryHill Manor Activities Fund.
