Joyce Pearson Best

Joyce June Pearson Best, 91, of Iron Mountain, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016, at Dickinson County Healthcare System in Iron Mountain surrounded by her family. She was born Feb. 28, 1925, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late James and Mary "Lillian" (St. Louis) Roberts. She grew up in Iron Mountain, where she was a lifelong resident. Joyce graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1943, and went on to graduate from Dundon's Business College. Joyce married William Pearson on June 15, 1946. He preceded her in death on Jan. 28, 1978. She later married Orville Best on Dec. 5, 1981. He preceded her in death on Feb. 21, 2005. Joyce and her brother, Luther opened Robert's Market on Kent Street in the 25 Location. She went on to continue her career as a bookkeeper at Ken's Motor Sales, Miller Products and Bink's Coca Cola, retiring in 2003. She was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford, which was a very important part of her life. She was a past member of the church choir, and also enjoyed being a volunteer for the Monday community meals at the church. Joyce was a member of ABWA and was named their Women of the Year in 1986. She also was a former member of Players de Noc, the Lady Elks, and Moose Lodge. She was an avid bowler, attending many Wisconsin State Bowling Tournaments. Joyce took pride in her many perennial flower beds. She loved gardening until she could no longer physically do it, and then brought the flowers to her deck to enjoy. She loved to dance, and always said, "What I wouldn't give to be able to dance again." She could relive the art through watching her favorite show, "Dancing With The Stars." Joyce also loved music and singing. She cherished the friendships and conversations she had at the Breen Senior Center in Kingsford. Her family was very important and meant everything to her. She was very proud of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, and attended many of their sporting activities and school programs. She was also "gram" to several of her grandchildren's friends. She had a special bond with her nephew, David Roberts, and always looked forward to their long telephone conversations. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Michael) Inglese of Felch; grandchildren, Terri (David) Castelaz, Kevin (Melissa) Krokstrom, Christopher (Angel) Inglese, Michael Inglese and Melissa Inglese; great-grandchildren, Cassandra (Marcus) Bubloni, Marcus Treiber (Michele Lundin), Payton and Tessa Castelaz, Mackenzie, Cooper and Parker Krokstrom, Chrislyn, Antonio and Porter Inglese, and Wyatt Westman; great-great-grandchildren, Emma Bubloni and Maci Treiber; special friends, Doug and Julia Krokstrom, Kathleen and Marvin Fayas, and Carol Bartolameolli; as well as several nieces and nephews, many friends, Melanie Dabb and other caregivers. She is also survived by her fur "kids," Rascal Flatts, Sheba and Frankie. In addition to her parents and husbands, Joyce was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Luther Roberts; a sister, Florence Limbach; and her two infant siblings. She touched many lives and will be greatly missed by all. We will cherish all the special memories we shared with her and her love will forever be in our hearts. Visitation will be held on Friday, Oct. 7, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. A funeral service will follow Friday at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Michael March will officiate. Burial will be in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park. Pallbearers will be Kevin Krokstrom, David Castelaz, Cooper Krokstrom, Marcus Treiber, Christopher Inglese, and Michael Inglese.
