Janet D. Sundquist

Janet D. Sundquist 94, of Florence formerly of Niagara, passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at the Dickinson County Healthcare System. Janet was born March 25, 1921 in Niagara, WI, daughter of the late Charles and Flora (Paupore) Gunville. She grew up in Niagara and was a 1939 graduate of Niagara High School. After high school, she went on to Badger Green Bay Business College. Janet lived in Chicago for a short time before returning to the Niagara area. Janet married Glenn Sundquist on July 5, 1947. This year they would have celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary. Janet and Glenn raised three children and spent summers at their cottage on Keyes Lake, which they began building together in 1955. Once the children were grown, they sold their home in Niagara and moved to the cottage. In retirement, they spent winters in Sarasota, Florida until returning to the cottage permanently in 2006. Janet enjoyed fishing for bluegills, pontoon rides, watching golf, football and game shows on TV. Lawrence Welk was her favorite. She also enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, bowling and shuffleboard. She especially looked forward to the weekly Smear games with Glenn, Jean and Joe, where she always seemed to manage to have the "low". In recent years, Janet had many health issues including diabetes, dementia and limited mobility. Glenn was proud and honored that they were able to remain at the cottage, where he cared for her until her passing. Janet was preceded in death by brother and sister in law, Stewart and Elayne Gunville; son in law, Richard "Pete" Bradley; niece, Sandra (Gunville) May and many others. Janet is survived by her husband, Glenn; three daughters, Glenette Sundquist and Cathy Bradley, both of DePere, WI, and Jean (Joe) Fornetti of Breitung Twp.; three grandchildren, Amy (Doug) Hodgson, Jaime (husband Matt Strutz) Fornetti and Laura (Mike) Leys; three great grandchildren, Dylan, Abigail and Sophia Hodgson; and by many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at St. Anthony's Church in Niagara on Thursday, May 14, 2015 from 10:30 to12:00 noon. Memorial Mass will be held at 12:00 noon Thursday at St. Anthony's Church. Father Matthew Settle will offer the Mass of Christian burial. Burial will be in the Niagara Cemetery.
