Howard "Howie" Carpenter

Howard “Howie” Clinton Carpenter, 73 of Breitung Township died peacefully on July 13, 2011 at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital. Howie was born on 1/1/1938 in Watrous, PA, son of the late Howard N. and Esther A. (Knowlton) Carpenter. He graduated from East High School in 1961 and attended UW Green Bay campus. Howie worked his early years at Krider Drug Store and the owner, Bernie Krider, was instrumental in Howie returning to school and graduating from high school and attending college. He went on to work for Forth and Porath, Reiss Coal Co. and spent the bulk of his career (28 years) with Dean Foods Co. He started in Traffic Management and retired as Vice President/Operations for their transportation arm, DFC Transportation Co. Howie married the love of his life and best friend, Jenny L. Jauquet on November 25, 1971 and they spent their years together first in Green Bay, WI, then Bloomingdale, IL and finally returning to the Iron Mountain area in 2002. He was a loving and generous man who touched many lives. He was a devoted and loving husband to Jen, a loving and supportive father to Jamie, Dave, Brett and Jeannie and a fun loving grandfather. He was also a brave grandfather as he would “solo” take 5 or 6 grandchildren to camp for a week each summer. Howie will forever be remembered in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Howie loved to travel. In better health days West End Theater in London was a passion and dinner at Scoma’s on the wharf a must in San Francisco. As he traveled the world, his favorite stop was always the local casino. He loved collecting and restoring antique guns. He maintained a Collector of Curios and Relics license until last year. He loved hunting at our beloved Big Rock Camp; however his preferred “rifle” was his camera and he was an avid collector of HO Gauge train engines. Howie was also a lifelong rabid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. In addition to his wife, Jen, Howie is survived by his sons Jamie and Monica and their sons Jake, Jordan, Nic, Zac and Brady; Dave and Lynette and their sons, Nathan, Simon, Morgan and Ryan; and Brett and Kelly and their daughter, Brittany. His daughter, Jeannie Carpenter and her children Jessi, Codi and Tailar Ness , Kaili and MacKenzi Carpenter. He is further survived by in-laws, Sr. JoAnn Jauquet, Sue Winkelspecht, John and Trudy Jauquet, Clem and Carol Jauquet , Trish Jauquet and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as his father-in-law’s widow, Shirley Jauquet. Besides his parents, Howie was preceded by his sister, Esther and brother-in-law Win DeKeyser and his father-in-law, Clem and mother-in-law, Helen Jauquet and a brother-in-law, Wink Winkelspecht. Celebration of Howie’s life will be on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 from 5:00pm until 6:00pm at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 6:00pm led by Fr. Arnie Grambow of Gladstone, a family friend. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the American Lung Association or the American Diabetes Association.
