Harold G. Erickson

Harold G. Erickson 88, of Kingsford, MI, passed away on March 19, 2017 at Dickinson County Hospital. Harold was born on July 17, 1928 in Marquette, Michigan, son of Oscar and Doris (Just) Erickson. He grew up in Republic and was a 1946 graduate of Republic High School. He went on to complete two years of Technical College to earn his Auto Mechanics Certification. Harold joined the United States Army in 1950 and served during the Korean War with the 223 Infantry Regiment 40th Infantry Regiment. His service decorations include the Korean service medal, United Nations medal, Sharp Shooter medal, Occupational medal (Japan) and the Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged and transferred to the Army Reserve in 1952. Harold married Martha Vandecasteele on February 7, 1953 at American Martyrs Church in Kingsford. Together, they raised their family in Kingsford. Martha preceded him in death on February 21, 2007. He worked as a mechanic for Edwards Chevrolet for many years, retiring in 1990. Harold was involved for many years with the Amidon Follies. He was an active participant and master of ceremonies. Over the years, he enjoyed hunting and was a talented handyman. He always had a project or was tinkering with something in his garage. Harold also enjoyed his weekly trips to the casino with Arvella. He was preceded in death by his great granddaughter Julia Angel Larson and his step sister, Rhea Price. He is survived by his children, Mark Erickson of Witch Lake, Michael (Anita Anys) Erickson of Kingsford, Marie Erickson of Kingsford and Marvin (Kristen) Erickson of Quinnesec; grandchildren, Adam (Stephanie) Erickson, Lee (Alyssa) Erickson, Holly (John Novara) Erickson, Heidi (John) Oman, Jesse Erickson, Michelle Norton, Christy (Stephen Sikora) Sanford, Dale (Lauren) Larson, Anthony Larson, Joshua (Jenni) Larson, Katie (Kevin) Lehto and Jacob Erickson; great grandchildren, Mya, Lily, Audry, Logan, Stetson, Maverick, Jack Ryan, Milania, Kirsten, Ashton, Justin, Tyler John, Ava Marie, Noah, Amelia and Caleb.; great great granddaughter, Ava; also by a very, very special friend Arvella Rudd of Kingsford. Visitation will be from 3:00-5:00pm on Friday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. The Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post #50 will conduct Military Honors at 5:00pm Friday at the Funeral Home Special thanks to the caring nursing staffs at both the Iron Mountain VA Hospital and the Intensive Care Unit at Dickinson County Hospital.
