Gordon H. Young

Gordon H. Young, age 84, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2017 at Evergreen Meadows Assisted Living in Norway, Michigan with his family at his side. Gordon was born October 31, 1932 in Osco, Illinois, the son of the late John Harvey and Nellie May (Sheppard) Young. After graduating high school in Mineral, Illinois, Gordon joined the United States Air Force in June 1952 and was a Staff Sgt / Jet Mechanic for the 345th Bombardment Squadron (SAC). After his release from the Air Force, Gordon began working for North Central Airlines at Midway Airport in Chicago, Illinois and eventually retired from Delta Airlines at O’Hare International Airport after 34 years of service. Gordon married the former Carol L. Kleckner in 1959 and the couple made their home in Addison, Illinois. Carol preceded him in death in May 1988. Gordon remarried the former Sandra J. Skinner in 1992 and after Gordon’s retirement they made their home in Kingston, Tennessee. Sandra preceded him in death in February 2006. Gordon is survived by his daughter, Connie (Paul) LaPointe of Kingsford, Michigan; step-daughter, Tammy (Dave) Polakowski of Sugar Grove, Illinois; step-sons Scott Skinner of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Troy (Cheryl) Skinner of Fox Lake, Illinois; grandchildren, Stephan (Catie) Schultz, Tyler (Katelin Dominguez) Schultz, Harmony (Justin) Wedin, Emily LaPointe, Ally and Jack Polakowski, and TJ and Gracie Skinner; and seven great-grandchildren, Grayson, Aria, Ashtyn and Liam Schultz and Faith, Layla and Jace Wedin. Gordon is also survived by his brother Robert (Janet) Young of Grand Blanc, Michigan, special nephew Mitchell (Kim) Young of Flint, Michigan, brother-in-law Robert Kleckner of San Antonio, Texas and sister-in-law Adrianna Kleckner of Annawan, Illinois and well as several nieces and nephews. Gordon was also preceded in death by his daughter Lori Lynn Young, a sister-in-law Maxine Adkins, brothers-in-law Duane, John and Donavon Kleckner and Howard Robinson. Visitation will be at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain on Wednesday, April 5th from 3:00-4:00 pm followed by a memorial service at 4:00. Fr. Janusz Romanek will officiate. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Annawan, Illinois.
