Everette E. "Pete" Peterson

Everette E. "Pete" Peterson 78, of Spread Eagle, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2011, at his home. He was born on Oct. 6, 1932, in Norway, son of the late Edward "Eddy" and Edna (DeClark) Peterson. His mother passed away at a young age, and he was raised by his aunt and godmother and uncle, Lil and Lester Struebing. He enlisted in the United States Air Force, and was honorably discharged. He worked his entire life as a truck driver and farmer. While farming he had a favorite horse, Toby and a favorite cow, Babe. Pete loved shoveling with his number 2 shovel, blowing leaves, driving his Kabota tractor for both work and visiting. He loved helping all people, especially those who were down and out, and gave anyone who needed anything whatever he could. He was a "jack of all trades" in maintenance, working some six years at the Anderson Memorial Clinic in Norway after supposedly retiring from trucking. He was a motorcycle lover, having his best fun with his Triumph Aerial Square 4, and Norton bikes. He also enjoyed his golf cart rides from home to Florence for an ice cream cone. He was a member of the Hiram D. Fisher Masonic Lodge in Florence and the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). Pete is survived by his fiance with whom he spent 20 years sharing life together, Betty "Babe" Grenfell of Spread Eagle; his only daughter, Jane (Michael Garrow) Peterson of Sagola; Betty's sons, Glenn (Kim) Grenfell and Todd (Donna) Grenfell; stepdaughters, Diana (James) Anderson, Judy (Glenn) Bowers, and Sandra Begosh; their mother, Eva Jane Peterson; grandchildren, Robert (Allison), Allen, Amanda (Peter), Ashley (Joe), Dominic, Addison, Eli; great-grandchildren, Kaydee, Paityn, Devin, Trent, Isabell, Sam, Morgan, and Brayden; cousins, Ernest and Dolly Vivio, Marilyn and Gerald Struebing; numerous cousins; step- grandchildren, and step great-grandchildren; special friend and sandbox buddy, David Anderson and many other special friends He was preceded in death by his parents; his aunt and uncle who raised him, Lil and Lester Struebing; a step-daughter, Ethel Marie Johnson; and a step-granddaughter, Sherry Bates. Visitation will be Thursday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. The funeral service will follow Thursday at 12 noon at the funeral home. Rev. David Anderson will officiate. A Masonic service will follow. Burial will be in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory.
