Edward F. "Ted"` Harris

Edward F. "Ted" Harris, 87 of Iron Mountain, formerly of Pembine, found eternal peace in the arms of his family on Sun. March 15, 2015 at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital. He was born on Dec. 16, 1927 in Iron Mountain, the son of the late Floyd and Bertha (Masty) Harris . Ted graduated from Iron Mountain High School and St. Mary School of X-Ray in Wausau. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1952-1954 as an X-ray Technician. Upon returning stateside, he got a job utilizing his degree at Bellin Memorial Hospital in Green Bay, where he was promoted several times and ended his career as the Assistant Administrator. Ted married the love of his life, Jean Ammerman on Oct. 21, 1952 in Laona, WI. They honeymooned in Great Falls, MT when Ted returned from his deployment to France. They have been referred to as the “Notebook” couple by many people who had the opportunity to witness their devotion and love for one another. The couple moved to a beautiful parcel of land in Pembine following Ted's retirement. They spent over 20 wonderful years enjoying the beauty of the north woods, and it gave both of them great pleasure to feed and watch the abundance of wildlife outside their front door. Ted was a loyal and dedicated father. The support he offered to both his children and grandchildren will be greatly missed. He was also a loyal friend to many and could be counted on for help whenever it was needed. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed both bird and deer hunting. He was a recreational gardener who was happy to share the bounty from his garden each year with friends and family. The birds and the deer could count on him to provide them with a daily meal and the hummingbirds beat a steady path to his door. Ted is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Jean, three children Barb (John) Melcarek of Wales, WI, Mary (Mike) Geyer of Chicago, and Jeff (Kathy) Harris of Stephenson, one sister Peggy (Clyde) Chartier of Norway, five grandchildren Niki Middleton, Brett (Danielle) Melcarek, Caiti (Jeremy) Santorelli, Alex Middleton (Morgan), and Ryan Melcarek, two great grandchildren Elliana Santorelli and Elijah Middleton, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter Jennifer (Jenny Bell) Popp. Visitation will be Thurs. from 10-11am at St. Margaret Catholic Church. Funeral services will follow at 11am at the church. Father Matthew Settle will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in the Laona Cemetery. The family requests that jeans be worn instead of somber funeral attire. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
