Donald Christ

Donald L. Crist, 86, of Iron Mountain, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010, at his home. He was born on Jan. 19, 1924, in Riga, Mich., the son of the late Ivan and Alice (Wynn) Crist. After graduating from high school, Don enlisted with the United States Army.He served during World War II from 1943-45 and received the Victory Medal and the American Theatre Ribbon with four Overseas Bars.After returning from the service, he worked as an inspector for REVCO from 1945-1965. In 1965, Don moved to the Peavy Falls area and operated a mink farm for many years.He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.Don was active in many church activities including the men's fellowship. He was a devoted member of the Masonic Lodge for most of his life and transferred his membership to the Iron Mountain Lodge in 1965.Don was the custodian for the Iron Mountain Lodge for many years and was very active in their activities and in the community. Over the years, Don held most of the offices within the Masonic Lodge, both at the local and state level.In addition, he was past patron of the Order of Easter Star and served in some capacity with the White Shrine, Nights Templar, Scottish Right, York Right, Tri State Shriners and numerous other Masonic organizations and functions. Don was also a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed deer hunting at Bob Hoaglund's camp and especially enjoyed cooking for the camp crew. Don is survived by his sister, Marilyn (Harold) Ruble of Deerfield, Mich.; special friends, Dave Melin and Arden and Rosalie Smith; nine nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and great-nephews. Friends are invited to gather at a social and reception from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 13, at the Iron Mountain Masonic Temple. Memorial services will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 13, at the Masonic Temple. Graveside services will take place in Deerfield at a later date.
