Diane Smith

Diane L. Smith, 49 of Norway, died Sat. Jan. 15, 2011 in Marquette. She was born on Jan. 11, 1962 in Iron Mountain. Diane graduated from Niagara High School in 1980. She married Ronald Smith on Dec. 28, 1980 at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Kingsford. The couple lived in many different places while Ron served in the U.S. Air Force. They moved to Norway in 1994 after his retirement. Diane loved being with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church and its choir. She had a strong faith and was active in the Women’s Bible Study at the Community Bible Chapel. She enjoyed reading and spent countless hours reading to children at Norway School. She was involved with the Norway Music Boosters and many other school activities. She also enjoyed music and singing Karaoke, watching movies, and playing cards. She is survived by her husband Ronald, three children Amanda (Randy) Simmons of Gwinn, Sarah (Daniel) Sena of Beulah, MI, and David Smith of Petosky, one sister Lori (Jim) West of Vulcan, her father Jim (Gloria) Swentner of Neenah, five grandchildren Aaliyah, Haylee, and Brayden Simmons, and Melody and Evelynn Sena. She is also survived by her step father Duane (Marilyn) Fayas of iron Mountain, a niece Shelby West, a nephew, James West, an uncle Tony (Barbara) Hohol of Georgia and his family, three special cousins Jill (Steve) Getling, Chris Bengel and Curt Bengel all of Neenah, and many other relatives and friends. Diane was preceded in death by her daughter Nicole Smith, her mother Annette Fayas, and her granddaughter Ava Simmons. Visitation will be Sat. from 10am-12 noon at Evangelical Covenant Church in Norway. Funeral services will be Sat. at 12 noon at the church. Rev. Jim Danielson will officiate.
