Desiree L. Phillips

Desiree “Desie” L. Phillips, 33, of Iron Mountain, passed away on July 22, 2020 at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, following complications arising from a lengthy battle with an autoimmune disorder. She was born February 4, 1987, daughter of John Phillips and Marsha (Kososki) Phillips and was raised in Iron Mountain. Desie was an exceptional student and a talented writer. She graduated, with honors, from Iron Mountain High School in 2005 and from Northern Michigan University in 2008. At NMU she completed her education in 3 years and earned two degrees. Desie was united in marriage to Chris Lucas on July 26, 2008 at Immaculate Conception Church in Iron Mountain. That union produced her life’s greatest joy when daughter Cadence was born. Cadie was the light of Desie’s life. The love that Desie and Chris have for their daughter, and their friendship, both remained evident, even going down separate paths. Working together for Cadie’s best interest was of utmost importance to both of them, and you would often find them together supporting her many activities, as well as coaching soccer and basketball. Desie was proud of the way she and Chris were able to positively co-parent and believed strongly that their daughter should always come first. She loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, searching for morel mushrooms, sharing a good drink with friends and sharp shooting; a pastime she was introduced to by special family friend, Fred Short. She was the proud recipient of a concealed carry permit, and was an excellent marksman. She relished time with her loved ones, and her boyfriend, Chad Tirschel. She liked taking rides to camp with Skylar the dog, going to Green Bay Gambler hockey games, and tending to the garden that they planted together. Desie also loved her job as a legal secretary working for Doug Drexler. She developed a great friendship with her boss and both would say, “Hell, we have just as much fun in the office as we do outside of it!” She recently bought a house from him and was fixing it up with Cadie, making it a home. She possessed the amazing qualities of strength, compassion, and kindness and was always fun-loving. Her positive attitude and bright smile will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Desie was preceded in death by her father, John Phillips; grandparents, Kenneth and Inez Kososki and John and Betty Phillips; uncle, Ken Kososki; and step-dad Steve Bauer. Left to cherish Desie’s memory are her beloved daughter Cadence (Cadie) Lucas, Cadie’s dad, Chris Lucas; her loving mother, Marsha Phillips; Aunt Teena (Louie) Schintgen; Uncle Peter Kososki; loving, former in-laws, Laura “Nana” Lucas, Natasha “Auntie Ta-Ta” (Donny) McCarthy, and Jimmy (Susan) Lucas; Boyfriend, Chad Tirschel of Quinnesec and his family; Cadie’s godparents Katie (Andy) Gibbons and Dave Lucas as well as many other relatives and friends too numerous to mention by name, all who loved her very much. Due to growing concerns with COVID-19, services will be held at a later date... DAMN COVID! In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Marsha Phillips to establish a trust for Cadence.
