David J. Sandberg

David J. Sandberg, 39, of Milwaukee, WI, formerly of Iron Mountain and Aurora died unexpectedly Monday, May 30, 2016 at his home. He was born October 25, 1976 in Iron Mountain, son of Ellen Barglind and the late Ragner Sandberg, Jr. David attended both Iron Mountain and Florence High Schools. David was one of those rare and blessed individuals who could master anything he put his mind to and make it look easy. A few of his many skills were displayed as he worked as a diesel and heavy equipment mechanic and auto body technician. He most recently landed his “dream job” at Total Appearance Collision and Graphics where he was able to express his creative genius as he custom painted and detailed semi‐trucks and trailers that were to be published in magazines and displayed at truck shows. Even though he was a skilled mechanic and bodyman; art was his passion. It permeated every aspect of his life. This was evident as he built from the ground up his tattoo business, Sandman’s Custom Ink, with the help of his role‐model, mentor, conscience, and beloved step‐father, Jack Paque. David’s legacy will live on in the tattoos he created for many in the community. David loved his family fiercely and that was never doubted. Carrie, his wife, along with their sons, Gabriel and Jack, were the reasons he fought so hard to be the super hero they knew him to be. They were the driving force behind his seemingly endless determination to make the most of their life. David’s mother, Ellie, was his rock. He could always turn to her for love, advice, and reassurance of what a phenomenal, kind, wonderful, loving and worthy person he was. Spending time with his family and creating memories was very important to David. He loved taking his boys and his nephews on adventures. He introduced them to one of his favorite places, Hall’s Creek. He also loved spending time with his brothers‐in‐law riding jet skis and having some misadventures along the way. He loved spending time out in the woods whether it was hiking, walking, or cutting wood with his chainsaw. To the point he was going to have “Husqvarna” tattooed on himself. He inherited his love of the woods and motors from his father, Ragner. Being out in the woods brought him peace and serenity. He had a hard time sitting still. David was always tinkering with a number of projects at any given time, whether those projects were artistic or mechanical in nature. Such as building and rebuilding his chopper in the kitchen, Gabe’s snowmobile in the living room, painting his mural in the shop or his gas tank on the kitchen table. He never hesitated to bring Carrie’s elaborate birthday ideas to life for their boys. The cakes he created were stunning works of art. He even illustrated a children’s book Carrie wrote. They made a great team. Due to his inability to sit still, David had quite the collection of motorized toys/vehicles through the years. He enjoyed working on and riding in or on his jeep, trucks, jet skis, motorcycles, dirt bikes, snowmobiles, 4‐wheelers, cars, and boats. He is survived by his wife, Carrie; two sons, Gabriel and Jack Sandberg; His mother and step father, Ellen “Ellie” (Brian) Barglind of Kingsford; one brother, Chet Sandberg of Madison, WI; two sisters, Jeanne Paque of Marquette, MI, Emily (Joe) Fox of Iron Mountain, MI; Step‐siblings, Jodi Barglind, Brent (Janelle) Barglind and Brad (Teresa) Barglind; David also leaves behind his special friends and family: His “handsome cousin” Chris Skoglund, Rob Towry, Greg & Traci Swallow & Marcy Wash; aunts and uncles, Evelyn (Bob) Anderson, Bob (Janet) Sandberg, Marilyn Moore, Jane (Jeff) Ellis, Judith (Mike) Randol, Bob (Leah) Skoglund, Lisa (Stewart) Skoglund, Bob (Jeannie) Paque and Carol (Steve) Rabideau. He also left behind many special cousins, and friends, as well as his nieces and nephews: Erin, Jason, Alex, Christopher, Angelo, Grace, Bennett, Jackson and Riley. David was preceded in death by his father, Ragner Sandberg, Jr, Step father, Jack Paque, paternal and maternal grandparents. David John Sandberg, our love will last forever and a day… Friends may call from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm Friday at the Kingsford Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Friday at the Kingsford Funeral Home. Fr. Joseph Gouin will officiate. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory.
