Daniel McLain

Daniel R. McLain, 30, of Iron Mountain, passed away on Tuesday, March 6th, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital after a two-year battle with brain cancer. Dan was born on January 22, 1982 in Green Bay, Wisconsin, son of Shawn and Catherine (Nau) McLain. He was raised in the Florence area and was a 2000 graduate of Florence High School. He operated Dan McLain Trucking for several years. Most recently he has worked for Minerick Logging in Sagola. Dan married the former Samantha Owens on August 15, 2008 at Fumee Falls in Breitung Twp. He was a member of Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain and the Hiram D. Fisher Masonic Lodge #222 of Florence. Dan also served with the National Guard, 1432nd Engineering Company out of Kingsford. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting with his parents, and fishing. Dan also liked to play cards and games with family and friends. He loved spending time with his beautiful children, savoring each memory that they created together. He lived life to the fullest, knowing and trusting that God was in control. There is a large hole left in the hearts of those who knew him. Dan will be remembered for his sense of humor, kind heart, and amazing smile. He is survived by his wife, Samantha; his son, Nathan Wicklund of Iron Mountain and his daughter, Jaden McLain at home; his parents, Shawn and Cathy McLain of Florence; maternal grandparents, Franklin and Nancy Nau of Crystal Falls and Juanita and Roger Spade of Amberg, WI; paternal grandparents, Gordon McLain (Donna) of Fence, WI and Sandra McLain of Fence, WI; a special step-grandma, Linda McLain; mother-in-law, Cindy Owens of Homestead, WI; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins including a cousin, good friend and caretaker, Leeanna Kligis. Dan is also survived by his childhood best friends, Jeremy Johnson and Kyle Coy as well as his dog and best buddy Oscar. Visitation will be from 3:00-6:00pm Monday, March 12, at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 6:00pm Monday at the funeral home. Rev. Lee Liverance will officiate. The Hiram D. Fisher Masonic Lodge #222 of Florence will conduct services at 5:30pm Monday evening at the funeral home. Burial will be at 11:00am Tuesday at Iron Mountain Cemetery Park. Military graveside services will be accorded by the Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post #50. Pallbearers will be, Kyle Coy, Les DeCamera, Phillip Boone, Troy Frappier, Michael Owens, Everette Cooper, and Andy Gibbons. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory.
