Colleen C. Soderberg

Colleen C. Soderberg of Iron Mountain passed to eternal life on Friday, October 23rd, 2015 at Hyland Nursing Home. She was born September 14th, 1927 in Iron Mountain, the daughter of the late Eric and Irma (Hedberg) Wahlstrom. Colleen graduated from Kingsford High School with the class of 1946, after which she worked in Chicago as a secretary. She returned home , met, fell in love, and married the love of her life Harold (Sody) Soderberg on June 18, 1947 at First Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain. Their devotion and commitment to each other was evident in the 65 years they spent together until Harold passed away on October 14th, 2012. Colleen raised two daughters along with working at the old Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain, later at the Department of Social Services and finally as co-owner with her daughter Ginny of Ginny's Hallmark Shops of Iron Mountain and Kingsford. Colleen was a wonderful homemaker. She loved cooking, baking, and entertaining family and friends. She had a beautiful rock garden, which she tended in the summer. She was an avid golfer and was a member of the Pine Grove Country Club and Apache Wells Country Club in Mesa, AZ. One of her many golfing highlights was winning the "President's Cup" at Fountain of the Sun Golf Course in Mesa. She was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain and the Order of the Eastern Star. In her later years, she and Sody lived in Mesa during the winter months and Michigan and Spread Eagle in the summer months. She is now rejoined with him in their forever "summer place". Her legacy will live on in her daughters Ginny (Dave) Sanders and Sheryl (Chris) Alberti, her beloved grandsons Mark (Dana) Michaud , and Michael (Andrea) Michaud, and her cherished and only granddaughter Aubrey Alberti (Shane) Hawkins, her five great grandsons Adam and Brett Michaud, Connor Michaud, and Charles and Jamesson Hawkins, her step grandson Scott (Shannon) Sanders and their children Brian and Bryonna, her sister-in-law Betty Wahlstrom and many wonderful nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her grandson Christopher Alberti, her brother Jack Wahlstrom, and her sister Jeanne Johnson. Visitation will be Wed. from 10am-12 noon at First Lutheran Church. Funeral services will be at 12 noon at the church. Rev. James Lindgren will officiate. Entombment will be in Cemetery Park. In lieu of flowers, a memorial in her name will be established. The family is extremely grateful to the Hyland for their devotion and care of Colleen in the last three years and those who shared their memories with us during her final days.
