Catherine Plante

IRON MOUNTAIN - Catherine T. Plante, 79, formerly of Norway and Iron Mountain, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008, at Maryhill Manor in Niagara surrounded by her family. Catherine was born on Aug. 31, 1929, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Allan and Hazel (Schaut) Blackhall. She attended Iron Mountain Schools and has been a lifelong resident of this area. Catherine worked for a time at Montgomery Ward in Iron Mountain and spent several years as a hostess for Stanley Home Products in this area. Catherine loved making quilts and was a talented rug maker. She had a special creativeness for color arrangement in her handmade quilts and rugs. She enjoyed showing her rugs at craft shows. She also was an avid card player and always enjoyed her time playing cards and visiting with family and friends. While working for Stanley Home Products, Catherine won several trips and enjoyed traveling. Her happiest times were spent with family and friends. Catherine is survived by her children, Mary (Al) Armstrong of Kingston, Okla., Linda (Mark) Petrick of Rowlette, Texas, Barbara (Dan) Keller of Negaunee, James (MaryJane) Oliver of Clinton, Okla., Elizabeth (R. Scott) Reath of Vulcan, Jennifer (Doug) Cady of Lewiston, Mich. and William "BJ" (Trisha) Plante of Norway; grandchildren, Alisha, Nick, Brad, Amy, Tangela, Alanda, Amy, Chad, Emerson, Jess, Danielle, Sarah, Chase, Logan, Benjamin, Joseph, Jonathan, Arthur, Steven, Catherine, Joshua, and Grace; great-grandchildren, Kate and Hunter; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Gordon Oliver in 1966 and her husband, William Plante in 2004; three brothers, Gordon, Jack and Allan Blackhall; and four sisters, Bette Dobson, Grace Vagjart, Mary Aydlette and M. Vera Bettiga . Visitation will be Monday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home. Memorial services will follow at 11 am. Fr. Daniel Zaloga will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park.
