Bruce L. Turrie

Bruce L.Turrie, 79, of Niagara passed away on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at Freeman Nursing and Rehabilitation Community in Kingsford, Michigan. Bruce was born October 8, 1941, in Aurora, WI, son of the late Leonard and Bernice (Lindstrom) Turrie. He graduated from Kingsford High School in 1959 and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering from Michigan Tech. After graduating with honors, he moved to Milwaukee to start his first job at Allis-Chalmers. Soon after he moved his family to Niagara, Wisconsin, after being offered a job to work for F.E. Smith Castings in Iron Mountain, Michigan. Bruce had pride in his work and was known to work from sun up to sun down. Along with his full-time job at F.E. Smith Castings as a Metallurgical Supervisor, Bruce also owned and operated Turrie Forest Products, along with his brother, Randy, for over 30 years, retiring in 2006. He was a member of American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford, Michigan. When it came to his spare time away from work, Bruce enjoyed all sports. He spent many years on bowling teams and hunting the forests in the area. Bruce enjoyed spending time with the friendships he had developed over the years, which was evident of his weekly trips down to the B&B Auto and Tire in Kingsford. Bruce was also a huge sports fan of the Detroit Tigers and Green Bay Packers and most importantly, coaching his grandchildren on the “fundamentals.” In his retirement years, Bruce enjoyed visiting his daughters and their families and driving down to lower Michigan to visit with his sister. Bruce is survived by his three daughters, Kristin (Frank) Gonzales of Green Bay, WI, Merijo (Mark) Schornstein of Champlin, MN, and Rebecca (Chris) Salazar of Sugar Grove, IL; a sister, Donna (Thomas) Wittock of Flushing, MI; and grandchildren, Tyler, Brandon and Spencer (fiance Kelli Graham) Lawniczak, Brady and Owen Schornstein, Stella and Sadie Salazar; and significant other, Bonnie Spanton. In addition to his parents, Bruce was preceded in death by his brother, Randy. Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:30 am on Monday, August 23rd, 2021, at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. A funeral mass will follow at 11:00 am at American Martyrs Catholic Church of Kingsford. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in the Homestead-Aurora Cemetery.
