Blaine A. Hyska

Blaine A. Hyska 63, of Kingsford, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at his home. He was born on June 13, 1952 in Michigan City, Indiana, son of Francis and Patricia (Seaverns) Hyska . Blaine graduated from Three Oaks High School in Three Oaks, MI. He went on to earn his Bachelor of Science Degree in Journalism from Central Michigan University. Blaine traveled for some time after graduating from college before taking a position with the newspaper in Benton Harbor, Michigan. He joined the Escanaba Daily Press as the Manistique Bureau manager and was later transferred to the paper's Escanaba office . He joined the Iron Mountain Daily News as news editor in June 1982 and has spent nearly 32 years as managing editor. As the papers managing editor, he directed coverage that has received numerous recognitions from both the Michigan Press Association and the Michigan Associated Press Media Editors Association. Blaine enjoyed fishing and pontooning with his family and friends. He looked forward to his summer vacations in Eagle River and the Fay Lake Resort. He and Carrie's home was the gathering place for family and friends during the holidays and special occasions. Blaine was a devoted son and made daily visits to his mother to make sure she had everything she needed. He also enjoyed watching his movies on Friday nights after work. Blaine was preceded in death by his father, Frank and his sister, Kathleen Campbell in 2001. He is survived by his soulmate and love of his life, Carrie; his mother Patricia, his son, Kyle (Megan) Hyska of Seattle, WA; father in law, James "Shorty" DeLongchamp of Kingsford; mother in law, Shirley DeLongchamp of Niagara; sisters in law, Peggy Thomas of Niagara and Paula (Mark) DeLongchamp of Niagara; brother in law, Robert (Teresa) DeLongchamp of Aurora; special nieces, Tara Alyssa and Katelyn Moore, Krista Heisey; great nephew, Connor O'Rourke and special friends, Cory Hughes, Greg Hendricks and Mark Rummel. Visitation will be on Saturday, Aug. 8th from 11:30-1:30pm at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. Private family funeral services and burial will take place. Monsignor James Kaczmarek will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park. Pallbearers will be, Kyle Hyska, , Greg Hendricks, Mark Rummel, Robert DeLongchamp and Levi Miller.
