William "Bill" Czernek

December 7, 1959 - February 25, 2021

William “Bill” Czernek, age 61, of Iron Mountain passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at his home. Bill was born on December 7, 1959 in Chicago, IL, son of the late Casimir and Jessica (Gimza) Czernek. He was a graduate of Steinmetz High School class of 1978 in Chicago, and later attended college. He lived in the Chicago area for many years before he met his future wife Liz through friends during a visit to Milwaukee. In August of 1987, Bill married his beloved wife, Elizabeth “Liz” Landsee in Milwaukee. Together, Bill and Liz raised three children; Casey, Joe, and Claire. Bill spent most of his working years employed in the Iron Mountain School System as a custodian, retiring after 21 years of service. He was known for his kindness, sense of humor, and always going above and beyond in all he took part in. Bill was a member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church of Iron Mountain. He was an avid Chicago sports fan and especially loved the Bears. Bill enjoyed fishing at the cottage, anything car-related, Polish food, music especially the 70s, and loved spending time with his family. Bill left his mark on everyone he crossed paths with and always put a smile on everyone’s face. He welcomed all with open arms and was always ready to lend a helping hand in whatever way needed. From dancing to any kind of music, to making funny faces, to constantly cracking jokes he was constantly making others laugh. He left an everlasting impact on not only his family and friends, but also his children’s friends. Those who knew him always say he was the nicest and most genuine guy they have ever met. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Liz; three children, Casey Czernek of Iron Mountain, MI, Joe Czernek of Canton, MI and Claire Czernek of Iron Mountain, MI; two brothers, Robert (Barbara) Czernek of Bloomingdale, IL. and Casey (Rosalie) Czernek of California; a brother-in-law, Bob (Sharon) Landsee; a sister-in-law, Kathy Landsee-Huschitt, along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bill was also preceded in death by his sister Debbie Czernek, his brother James (Jimmy) Czernek, mother-in-law Maria Landsee, father-in-law Frank Landsee, and nephew James Steven Czernek. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11:30am on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. A Memorial Mass will follow at 12:00pm at St. Mary & St. Joseph Catholic Church. Fr. Janusz Romanek will officiate. Burial will be in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park.
