Richard Leonard Markin

June 19, 1934 - November 24, 2021

Richard Leonard Markin, 87, passed away on November 24, 2021 at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital following complications of a COVID-19 infection. Richard was born June 19, 1934 to the late William and Minnie (Jones) Markin in Wauzeka, WI. He started working as a teenager doing various farm work. Richard served in the Army for 5 ½ years, including one year that he spent in Germany. He was later awarded medals for good conduct and sharp shooter. He worked at Chevrolet in Janesville for 10 years. Richard was also a painter for more than 50 years, most recently with Zambon decorating which he enjoyed for 32 years before his retirement in 2007. He was a hard worker and had a dry sense of humor. Richard was a quiet man and loved being outdoors. Richard is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Vernell Moore Markin of Aurora, WI; Five beloved children: Theresa (Folko) Landvogt of Iowa, Marcia Markin (Jody Rogers) of Iowa, Stacey (Jerry) Reed of Prairie du Chein, WI, Dion Markin (Ann Lerch) of Prairie du Chein, WI, Melissa Moore (John III) Graf of Kingsford, MI;16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; sister Marlene (Frank) Williams of Richland Center, WI; two brothers-in-law, Roy (Pat) Moore and Gary (Bonnie) Moore; as well as many nieces and nephews. As with the circle of life, his newest great-grandchild, Delainey Lee Markin, was born 3 days after he passed. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Dick (Judy) Moore and Ken (Karen) Moore. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 21st at 2:30 PM in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park. The Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post 50 will conduct military honors. A celebration luncheon and extended time of sharing will follow at the NWTC/ Hillcrest School in Aurora from 3:00 until 6 PM. Condolences to the family of Richard L.
