Milton Francis Raketich

October 28, 1931 - November 22, 2020

Milton Francis Raketich was born 89 years ago in October to Walter and Francis Raketich of Kingsford. Raised in The Kingsford Heights, he entered the Airforce upon graduation before starting his education and lifelong career as an engineer. He returned to Kingsford in the early 70’s to make his home and raise a family on the very block he grew up on. He was respected as an innovative engineer and had the opportunity to do what he loved the most; solve problems. Whether he was up all night at his desk, riding his bicycle or climbing the ski hill, his mind was always working. Machinery he designed, modified or fabricated could be found throughout the country and his pride was building equipment that made work easier for the person on the shop floor. However, Milt’s greatest attribute was he loved people young and old. Whether he chose to encourage or debate, he seemed genuinely interested in just about everyone. He often remarked “you could see God’s miracle in every person.” He touched friends, family and strangers with his warmth and honesty and was regarded as an original who imparted a sense of great worth in everyone. For this he will be missed. He was very proud of his children and thankful that his ex-spouse Mary was still a big part of his life. Mary and Milt were best friends and cared for each other deeply. Milt was very appreciative that Mary was always there to help him and enjoyed the companionship they shared. Milt is survived by a daughter, Bobbie (Steve) Povolo; a son, Kevin (Karen) Raketich; a daughter, Toni (Joe) Scarp; and a son, Mike (Amy) Raketich; 9 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. His entire family would like to thank the caregivers at ManorCare and Evergreen Assisted Living for helping him when he needed to leave his home and caring for him in his final days. His family would also like to recognize Mary and Bobbie who have been near him, filling his final years and days with companionship and care. Milt admired the strength of mothers and believed in the need for unconditional love and support of children. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the Caring House located at 1305 Prospect Ave, Iron Mountain, MI 49801. Due to COVID restrictions, a private ceremony will be scheduled at a later date.
