Marjorie June Desmarais

Marjorie June Desmarais was born June 29, 1926 in Iron Mountain, MI. She was the daughter of Homer and Anna (Ericksen) Hebert. She died on Sunday, December 2, 2012 at ManorCare Health Services where she had resided for the previous 14 months. Prior to her residence at ManorCare, she lived at Evergreen Assisted Living and Mary's Way apartments after spending the majority of her married life at 220 Cleveland Ave. in Kingsford. She attended Iron Mountain schools but graduated from Kingsford Sr. High School in 1944 after her family moved from Woodward Ave. to Kingsford Heights just before her senior year. After high school graduation she attended and graduated from Dundons "Actual" Business College. She worked as a secretary for Carl Blum Roofing and Siding Co. and later at JC Penney's in the catalog department. On June 5, 1948 she married James E Desmarais at St. Mary's and St. Joseph's Church in Iron Mountain. He preceded her in death on May 28, 2007. Together they raised three daughters. She is survived by her daughters Ann (Barry) Johnson of Kingsford, Sally (Bill) Dowling of Annapolis, MD, and Martha Ritzenhein of Iron Mountain. She leaves one granddaughter Sarah Dowling of Madison, WI and six grandsons, Erik (Sarah) Johnson of Hamden, CT, Gabe (Rachel) Johnson of Marquette, Jim (Alice) Johnson of Marquette,Jim Ritzenhein of Iron Mountain, Jason Ritzenhein of Aurora and Christopher (Emilia) Ritzenhein, Jr. of Green Bay. She also leaves 5 great grandchildren and a son-in-law Chris Ritzenhein. Marjorie was a member of St. Mary Queen of Peace Church in Kingsford where she was a lector, CCD teacher and a member of St. Anne's Circle. She enjoyed dressing as a clown for parish picnics. She faithfully served as a Pastoral Minister at the VA Hospital as well. Her life revolved around her daughters. She dearly loved her grandchildren and was thrilled when the great grandbabies were able to visit her. She will be dearly missed by her family and many friends. Visitation will be Friday from 9-10:30 am at Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Fri. at 11am at St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Father Michael Woempner will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Cemetery Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Mary Queen of Peace Church.
