Leo R. LeRoy, 102, of Kingsford passed away Thursday, May 12th, 2022, at Marshfield Medical Center Dickinson in Iron Mountain. Leo was born on February 7, 1920, in Niagara, WI, son of the late Leo and Mary (DuFresne) LeRoy. He graduated from Kingsford High School with the Class of 1938 and was a lifelong resident of the area. Leo married Eileen Gothe on December 25, 1939 at the Gothe residence in Kingsford, and they enjoyed nearly 68 years together before she passed on November 25, 2007. Leo served in the U.S. Army during WWII from June of 1944 until his honorable discharge in December of 1945. He was a paper tester at the Niagara Paper Mill for 39 years before retiring. Leo was a member of American Martyrs Catholic Church. He enjoyed music, reading, hunting, fishing, wood carving, and playing the harmonica. Leo is survived by his children, Mary (David) Sgrecci of Iron Mountain, Leo R. LeRoy, Jr. of Saginaw, MI, Suzanne (Peter) Matiash of Waunakee, WI, and Gloria (Robert) Fugere of Menominee; a daughter-in-law, Reylene LeRoy of Spooner, WI; a sister-in-law, Geraldine Weber of Aurora, WI; 15 grandchildren, David (Jackie) Sgrecci, Carol (Steven) Havens, Angela (Darren) Anderson, Joseph (Molly) Sgrecci, Anthony (Jesse) Sgrecci, Michael LeRoy, Aaron LeRoy, Sara (Heather) Klecan, Tracy (Scott) Ocel, Nicholas (Jodi) Matiash, Michael (Angela) Matiash, Leo (Kathrine) LeRoy III, Michele (Paul) Geyer, Karl Fugere (Donna Yost) and Jessica Fugere-Beaman; 35 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents and wife, Leo was preceded in death by a son, Gary “Bucky” LeRoy; a daughter-in-law, Linda LeRoy; and a sister, Vivian Gregory. Visitation will be 8:30 to 10:30 am on Wednesday, May 18, at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am at the American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park. The Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post 50 will conduct military honors. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory. Condolences to the family of Leo R.
