Karen Charlotte Hixon

Karen Charlotte (Freeman) Hixon, 91, of Aurora, WI, passed away peacefully at Florence Health Services on Thursday, February 10, 2022. Karen was born Sept. 7, 1930, to the late Albert Larson and Esther (Anderson) Larson of Aurora, WI. She loved spending time with and talking on the phone to her nieces and nephews. She was the perfect combination of sweet and sassy, with an unforgettable smile and infectious laugh, an amazing woman who triumphed over many challenges, moving through them all with strength and grace. She went back to school and received her diploma the same year as her grandson, and she was very proud of her accomplishment. She had a passion for cooking and having the whole family together at the table and making Christmas cookies every year with the grandkids. She loved to go to the casino and play on the penny machines whenever possible. She belonged to a card club with lifelong friends for over 60 years, getting together every other week and helping each other with weddings, showers, anniversaries, birthdays, and many other things. She loved her little apartment in Aurora and all of her special friends, watching over each other, sharing food, riding golf carts through Aurora, and enjoying their Packer Games, especially if they won the pool. She lived her life the fullest and we will miss her dearly. Along with her parents, Karen was preceded in death by a brother, Reams (Dorothy) Larson; sisters, Elaine (Harvey) Greenwood, Shirley (Hubert) Franck, and Anna Mae (Charles) DuFresne; and a son, James (Jimmy) Freeman. She is survived by a brother, Jon (Bessie) Larson; two sons, Michael (Pam) Freeman and Kelly Freeman; a daughter, Cindy (Brent) Doda; grandchildren, Cary Freeman (Bridget Murphy), Chris (Lisa) Freeman, Torrie (Eric) Friberg, Ryan (Emma) Doda, Matt (Annie) Doda, Ashley (Jamie) Kuhl, Levi Doda Freeman, Cole Freeman, Kara (Felix) Shangin, Iain Freeman, Cody Freeman, and Amber Freeman. She was Grandma Great to Zoe Freeman, Ethan Freeman, Josh Freeman, Damien Maki, Layne Doda, Raegan Doda, Remi Kuhl, Ben Smithson, Oksana Shangin, Braxton Wollum, and Evan Friberg; and Great-Great-Grandma to Ali Mae Freeman. She is further survived by sisters-in-law, Edna (Jud) Dennis and Donna (Don) Legault. A celebration of her life will be announced at a later date.
