Chris John Alberti

December 25, 1948 - March 9, 2022

Chris John Alberti, 73, passed from earth to join Our Heavenly Father and his son, Christopher John, in Heaven on Wednesday, March 9th, 2022, in the ICU at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay, WI, surrounded by his beloved wife, Sheryl, and family members. He was born December 25,1948, to the late Robert & Dorothy Alberti. He had many good memories of growing up in Quinnesec with family, neighbors and friends who impacted his young life. He could still mention by name all of the 128 customers he delivered the Iron Mountain News to! He graduated from Kingsford High School in 1967 where he excelled in many sports, especially football when he played for the Flivvers in the infamous Iron Mountain vs. Kingsford game of 1964 when Iron Mountain won 6-0! He went on to attend Northern Michigan University and work at Kimberly Clark Paper Mill in Niagara while attending NMU Residence Classes. In 1970 he met the love of his life, Sheryl Soderberg; the couple were married August 14, 1971. They celebrated 50 beautiful years of loving, living and creating cherished memories together this past August. In 1974 Chris graduated from NMU with a BS Degree in Education and taught Industrial Arts and coached football at Minooka High School in Minooka, IL for 2 years, moving back to Kingsford where he began teaching drafting and was the assistant freshman football coach at Kingsford High School in 1978. Eventually, he began teaching woodworking, where he thoroughly enjoyed teaching his students how to build and create with wood. The students were able to make many small and large projects, which they would display at a spring woodworking arts fair held in the woodshop. He also taught woodworking in the evening for Community Schools He had fond memories of many of his students through the years! Chris was also Athletic Director at KHS and Driver Education Instructor for Kingsford and North Dickinson High Schools. During these busy years he attended Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wi where he earned his Master's Degree in Education in 1996. At the end of his teaching career, Chris taught social studies for the eighth grade Kingsford middle school. Chris retired from Breitung Township Schools in 2002 due to health reasons and was on dialysis for ten months when he received "The Gift of Life" (a kidney from his wife Sheryl), which gave him 20 more years of loving, laughing and enjoying life. Chris & Sheryl were avid travelers and enjoyed wonderful trips to Israel and Egypt, ten countries in Europe, where they enjoyed dinner in London, England on their 25th anniversary, San Francisco on their 35th anniversary, along with Hawaii, Cancun, Nashville, New York, Washington DC and cruises to the south Caribbean and Alaska. Chris enjoyed hunting, especially deer hunting at the log cabin he and his father built near Foster City, and he was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Iron Mountain where he formerly taught 9th grade CCD and was a Eucharistic Minister. Chris was a caring, generous man who loved talking and sharing his stories and sense of humor with everyone he knew or met. He was a loving husband, devoted father, son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and grandpa. Most of all, he was a gentle giant who will leave a void in all of our lives and a treasure trove of precious memories. Chris is survived by his wife, Sheryl; his daughter, Aubrey; grandsons, Charlie and Jamesson Hawkins; his mother, Dorothy Alberti; sister, Sharon (John) Dougoveto; sister-in-law, Ginny (Dave) Sanders; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Christopher; his father, Robert; his father and mother-in-law, Harold and Colleen Soderberg; and son-in-law, Shane Hawkins. The family wishes to thank Dr. Marjorie Funtanilla, Kelly Floriano and staff, Fresenius Dialysis nurses, Dr. Mathias Fuchs, Dickinson Home Health Care, Art Spera from The Drug Store, DICSA, and Arms of Angels Transportation. A special thank you to Mark and Michael Michaud, Brian Phillips and John Proudfit, who went above and beyond to assist Chris; and to the many wonderful people who offered up prayers for him during this difficult time. Visitation will be 9:00 - 11:00 am on Thursday, March 17th at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Msgr. Kaczmarek will offer the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. Burial will be at a later date.
