Barbara Jean Hord

Barbara J. Hord, 84, of Niagara, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, May 9, 2022 at Maryhill Manor in Niagara. Barbara was born on September 10, 1937, in Faribault, Minnesota and was the daughter of the late Clarence and Rachel (Olson) Carlson. She graduated from Kingsford High School with the class of 1955 and was a lifelong resident of the area. On July 14, 1956, Barbara married Fred Hord and that union spanned 38 years before he preceded her in death on May 17, 1995. Barbara was a wonderful homemaker and gardener. She enjoyed taking care of her family and her home. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were the greatest joy of her life. Barbara is lovingly survived by her children, Steven Hord (Randy Mattson) of Iron Mountain, Jeffrey Hord (Pat Dorner) of Pembine, and Tammy (Mark) Forgette of Granite Quarry, North Carolina; grandchildren, Jason Hord (Keri Swanson), Lisa (Matt) Flynn, Joey Forgette, Peyton Forgette and Tyler Forgette; brother, Edward (Pam) Carlson of Grand Forks, North Dakota; brother-in-law, Duane Hord of Cape Coral, Florida, and sister-in-law, Pat Hord of Kingsford, Michigan; as well as five great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and her special fur baby, Sassy. In addition to both parents and her husband, Fred, Barbara was preceded in death by her in-laws Roy and Lorna Hord, nephew Jim Hord, sister-in-law Lois Hord, and brother- in-law Lloyd Hord. A very special thank you to the nurses and staff at Maryhill Manor for the compassionate care given to Barbara for the last four years. Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 14 from 9:00 -11:00 am, followed by services at 11:oo am at Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Rev. Michael March will officiate. Burial will be in Aurora-Homestead Cemetery.
