Vonna Raye Hawley

On Sunday, March 20, 2022, Vonna Raye Hawley, our beautiful wife, mother, grandmother and friend of Goodman, was guided to heaven by the angels. She was born in Rapid City, SD on Sept. 30, 1934, to the late Charles W. and Dorothea (Adams) Fees. Vonna was a graduate of Alma Center High School, Class of ’52. On Aug. 15, 1953, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Vonna married and devoted 68 years to her beloved husband, Don Hawley. After lovingly raising seven children, she went to work for the Goodman-Armstrong Creek School District. In 1973, she was hired as a dishwasher, and 27 years later, retired as the food service director. She also was the Union President for the support staff during part of that time. Vonna dedicated her time to the community through her service as an EMT for the Goodman-Armstrong Creek Rescue Squad during its founding years. She also belonged to the Christian Mother’s Organization for the St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Vonna was a true sports fanatic (Brewers, Packers and youth sports, especially Little League), an avid reader, and a true bookworm who proudly proclaimed she read every book in the Alma Center Library. She is well known for her culinary skills and will be remembered for her pasties, homemade buns, and apple pies. Faith and Family were always Vonna’s number one love. An afghan was always the prized graduation gift she made with love for every one of her 18 grandchildren. She never missed a birthday and her homemade computer birthday cards had the most heartfelt words. Vonna will be deeply missed by her husband of 68 years, Donald; 7 children, Daniel (Rita) Hawley, Peggy (Roger) Russ, Mark (Laurie) Hawley, Timothy (Margaret) Hawley, Kathleen (Timothy) Nachtwey, Becky (Daryl) Waters and Kristofer (Leesa) Hawley; 17 grandchildren, Stephanie, Jessica (Ryan), Eric (Emily), Danielle, April, Sarah, Brian (Ashlee), Bethany (Matthew), Shawn, Mitchell, Thomas (Mallory), Scott (Katie), Alex (Tanner), Analise, Zoe, Roy, Matthew (Kelsey) and Paige (Isaac); 20 great-grandchildren; sister, Jean Walker; close family, friends, and her “adopted” ones she loved along the way. In addition to her parents, Vonna is preceded in death by her step-mother, Lillian Fees; 2 siblings, Charles W. Fees Jr. and Myrtlebelle Fees; and a brother-in-law, Dick Walker. Vonna’s family would like to thank the Goodman-Armstrong Creek Rescue Squad, neighbors, Cory, Val and Jamie Carlson, and special friends, Bob and Dawn Stec for their care and support. Visitation will be at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, at 6th and Main St. in Goodman, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2022, with Rev. Albert Balderas officiating the Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 p.m. (Noon). Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Vonna’s name may be made to the Goodman-Armstrong Creek Rescue Squad at P.O. Box 393, Goodman, WI 54125.
