Violet V. Pilon

Violet V. Pilon, 99, of Kingsford formerly of Iron Mountain, passed away on Friday, October 21, 2016 at Manorcare Nursing Home surrounded by her family. She was born on May 10, 1917 in Gaastra, MI, the fifth of eight children born to the late Fred and Alma (Benoit) Chaillier. Violet has been a resident of this area for most of her life and married Louis Pilon on January 10, 1933 at Sacred Heart Church in Schaffer, MI. Together they raised seven children. Louis preceded her in death on March 14, 1978. Violet worked as a waitress at the Riverside Club and the T & T Restaurant before going back to school to get her nurses aid certificate. She worked as a nurses aid at Americana (Manor Care) Nursing home until her retirement. Her love of music followe her through to the end. She could be heard singing "you are my sunshine" for the nurses at Manor Care. Violet was a seventy year member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Church, the Daughters of Isabella and the Chicago and North West Railroad Women's Club. She also volunteered at the Iron Mountain VA Hospital and was very active at the Iron Mountain Senior Citizens Center. Violet enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, dancing and being at the family camp on Rock Lake. She was a wonderful cook and the family always looked forward to her French Pork Pies. Violet loved hosting the holiday gatherings and spending time with her large family. In addition to her husband, Violet was preceded in death by her son Robert, three brothers and four sisters. She is survived by her children, Nancy (Lloyd) Cudnohufsky of Kingsford, Carolee (David) Palmcook of Quinnesec, Gary (Jan) Pilon of Orlando, FL, Randy (Cindy) Pilon of Niagara, Debra (Steve) Krueger of Vulcan and Renee (Chris) Wilson of Kingsford; Daughter in law, JoAnn Pilon of Kingsford; She was "Mim" to her nineteen grandchildren; forty four great grandchildren and eighteen great great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 28 , 2016 from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm at St. Mary and St. Joseph Church . Funeral services will follow at 1:00pm at the church. Fr. Janusz Romanek will offer the Mass of Christian burial. Burial will be in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park.
