Truman Burke

KINGSFORD - Truman Raymond Burke, 82, formerly of 634 E. Breitung Ave. Kingsford, died Thursday, October 22, 2009 at Hyland Nursing Home in Iron Mountain. He was born on December 28, 1926 in Iron Mountain, son of the late Raymond and Clara (Foley) Burke. Except for his time in the U.S. Navy during WWII, Truman was a lifelong resident of Kingsford. He wrote a poem during the war that was published. He was a salesman for Gambles store and Bob's Mobile Homes for 25 years. Truman retired as co-owner of Northern R.V. in Quinnesec. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #700, American Legion Post 363 in Kingsford and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3674. Truman loved hunting, his camps, bingo, cooking, gardening, model airplanes and a good laugh telling jokes. He also loved flying and had his pilot's license for many years. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Colleen; four sons, Kenneth (Dorothy Moddie) Burke of Kingsford, CR (Maureen McAuliffe) Burke of California, William (Lynn Schabo) Burke of Niagara and Gary Burke of Iron Mountain; grandchildren, Ken Jr. (Dawn) Burke of Kingsford, Connie (Michael) Pelletier of Iron Mountain, Jeremy (Shannon) Burke of CA, Elizabeth (Noah) Gilchrist of CA, Brandon Burke of CA, Doug Burke of FL, Paul Burke (U.S. Navy) of VA, and Mary Ann Burke of Atlantic Mine; great grandchildren, Brian and Samantha Burke, Jared and Alexis Pelletier, and Sydney Marvella; a nephew that he helped raise, John (Judy) Scanlon of Oconto; a niece, Merty Anne (Bertoline) Boe of Fairbault, MN; and a sister, Caroline Peterson of OH. In addition to his parents, Truman was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Patrick and Myrtle (Gregerson) Hyland, a grandson, Robert Paul Burke and a brother-in-law, Jim Peterson. Visitation will be Saturday from 9-11am at the Kingsford Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 11am at the Kingsford Funeral Home. Rev. James Danielson will officiate.
