Thalia Massage Cocking

Thalia Massage Cocking, 88, of Iron Mountain, passed away on June 26, 2011 at Freeman’s Nursing and Rehabilitation Community in Kingsford. She was born on June 11, 1923 in Rome, NY, daughter of the late George and Mildred (Molnaa) Anderson of East Kingsford. Thalia attended Kingsford High School. She left before graduation with two friends to go and work at Allis Chalmers, as a welder. After returning to this area she married Robert J. Massage on May 13, 1944 in Titusville, Florida, where he was stationed in the U.S. Navy. Thalia worked at Ted’s Grocery Store and Super Value. She returned to Breitung Township Schools and received her 1941 high school diploma in 1976. Robert preceded Thalia in death on Dec. 9, 1984, after forty years of marriage. On May 28, 1991, Thalia married Robert H. Cocking of Iron Mountain. The couple enjoyed the last twenty years together. Thalia enjoyed cooking and baking, especially at Christmas time. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and sewing. She loved bowling and was inducted into the U.P. Bowling Hall of Fame at the age of eighty. Thalia and Bob enjoyed attending horse shows and horse pulling contests. She is survived by her husband Robert Cocking, one daughter Dorothy (Al) Weecks, four grandchildren Terri Weecks Lindquist, Sherri (Ron) Lindlbauer, Erick Weecks, and Kerri Weecks, eight great grandchildren Ashley, Jeremy, Tara, Alex, Kelsey, Kallie, April, and Isabella, two great great grandchildren Ava and Jayden; three sisters, Dorothy Maule, Beverly “Betsie” Benzie, Karen (Cliff) Peronto, Also surviving are two step daughters Jean (Dave) Miller and Joan (Pat) Fitzgibbon and five step grandchildren Ian, Erin, Andy, Patrick, and Brian, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews and a cousin Betty Anderson of Duluth, Minnesota. In addition to her first husband and her parents, Thalia was preceded in death by her son Robert G. Massage, one granddaughter Lynda Massage, two great grandsons Matthew Weecks and Kalvin Weecks, one sister Anna Richards, and one brother Richard “Dick” Anderson. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 30, 2011 from 2:30pm until 4:30pm at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. Funeral services will follow at 4:30pm at the church. Rev. Lee Liverance will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park.
