Ted "Rip" Kimichick

Ted "Rip" Kimichick, 76, of Kingsford, passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at HCR Manorcare Rehab Center in Kingsford. He was born on September 4, 1940 in Vulcan, Michigan, son of the late Tedius G. and Helen (Braspennickx) Kimichick, Sr. He attended school in the Vulcan area, graduating from Vulcan High School .Where he was president of his class. He went on to attend Northern Michigan University where he received his Associate's Degree in Business. Rip went to work for National Laboratories, retiring in 1993 as the District Manager after 24 years. He married Patricia Ann James on June 1, 1963, and she preceded him in death on July 20, 1996. They were married 33 years. He took pride living in the center of his rental properties. Also, his meticulously maintained Cadillacs and Harleys all of which were adorned in chrome. Rip moved briefly for work to Iowa in his younger years, returning to the area to raise his family. He was a member of the American Martyr's Catholic Church, the Iron Mountain Jaycee's, and the Elks Club. His true passion was riding his Harley Davidson. He has attended the rally in Sturgis, South Dakota at least 20 times. He was also a member of the Long Riders and the Pleasure Riders and ABATE. Another passion of his was shooting pool. He played in many leagues in the area ,and in many places. He was the area's Top Shooter for many years, including being still on top at the age of 75. He loved spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren. Never missing the opportunity to attend one of their sporting events or concerts, unless it conflicted with pool league. He shared his organizational skills and pride in a job well done with all. His faith in his doctors and his will to remain here with his family and many friends was unshakeable. Through it all his positive attitude was inspiring to all. Rip is survived by his daughters, Tricia (Todd) McCole of Kingsford and Tara (Bruce) Laing of Spread Eagle, WI; his girlfriend, Irene LaFave of Escanaba; Five grandchildren, Joshua, Elli, and Nickolas McCole, Bryce Marie (Tanner) Laing-Chouinard, and Hunter James Laing; a brother, Randy (Dianne) Kimichick. And one nephew Ryan Kimichick. The visitation will be held on Friday, October 28, 2016 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Fr. Joseph Gouin will officiate. Burial will be in Dickinson County Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Todd McCole, Bruce Laing, Josh McCole, Nick McCole, Hunter Laing, Randy Kimichick, and Ryan Kimichick. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory.
