Stephen P. Vaccarello

Stephen P. Vaccarello, age 81 of Kingsford, Michigan, formerly of Rockford, passed away Friday April 17, 2015 at the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital. He was born December 1, 1933 in Rockford the son of Peter and Pietrina Vaccarello. Steve lived most of his life in Rockford, Illinois. He graduated from West High School and Illinois State Teacher’s College in Dekalb, Illinois. He was a Veteran of the Korean War serving the United States Navy from 1952 until 1955 aboard the U.S.S. Macon. He first married Ione Grabow in Rockford on April 25, 1959. She preceded him in death in 2010. Steve was president of Vaccarello Financial Services for 45 years. He entered the Insurance business in 1960 and received his Financial Advisors Degree in 1968. The most important things Stephen had done in his life was to set a good example for his sons, Peter and Stephen, and tried to treat everyone he did business with as he would have want to be treated. He wanted to be remembered as a person who had respect for his family, friends and all humans. He enjoyed his 45 years in Insurance because he made lifetime friends. He was a member of St. Rita Church and the Verdi Club. On July 7, 2012, he married Maxine (Urban) Oberdorfer at the First Covenant Church in Iron Mountain. He is survived by his wife Maxine of Kingsford, MI, son Peter (Lena) Vaccarello of S. Elgin, IL, brother Paul (Gail) of Naperville, IL, sister-in-law Jan of Rockford, step-children Jody (Steve) Marek, Dan (Lori) Oberdorfer, Mike (Debbie) Oberdorfer, all of Kingsford, MI and Rob (Darcy) Oberdorfer of Cedar Springs, MI, 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded by his son Stephen M. Vaccarello in 1973 and brother Mike Vaccarello. Visitation will be Friday morning at St. Rita's Church in Rockford, IL from 10:00 until 11:00 am. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday April 24, 2015 in St. Rita Church. Rev. John Evans will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
