Sarah Myrthie Erickson

Sarah Myrthie Erickson went to her heavenly home at 11:00pm on May 23, 2015 at the age of 98. Sarah was a resident of Evergreen Assisted Living in Kingsford, MI. Sarah Myrthie Erickson was born on November 17, 1916 in Gurley, MI to Minnie (Pirlot) and Eri Purdy. She had two brothers and one sister. After Eri Purdy passed away, Minnie Purdy married Herbert S. Jones. They had 7 more children and he adopted Sarah and her brothers and sister, so their last name became Jones. Sarah worked at the Westwood Grocery Store for 9 years after graduating from Kingsford High School in June of 1934. She married Dewey Buettner in 1941 and had 4 children. Dewey Buettner passed away in December of 1946. She worked several times at Montgomery Ward until she married Irvin Erickson in 1963 and moved to Grafton, WI. They moved back to Iron Mountain in 1977. Irvin passed away on November 9, 1978. On October 25, 1953, Sarah was born again and took Christ as her Savior at the First Presbyterian Church. In 1973, she joined the Baptist Church and most recently was a member of the First Baptist Church in Iron Mountain. Sarah enjoyed starting her day off reading her bible, having devotions, and in prayer. “May my loved ones and friends know Christ, so I see them in Heaven.” Sarah was predeceased by her beloved son, Herbert Buettner in 1965, by her brothers, Wallas Jones, Robert (Margie) (Marie) Jones, Carl (Joan) Jones, Emery Jones, Raymond (Marie) Jones, and Howard (Betty) (Virginia) Jones, and by her sisters, Geraldine (Adolph) Bartoletti, Eunice (Norman) Barribeau and brother-in-law, Claude Cootware. Sarah is survived by her daughters, Suzan (Arlon) Sibert of Las Vegas, NV, Gayle (Ray) Blomquist of Kingsford, MI, and Barbara Johnson of West Bend, WI. She is survived by her grandchildren, Todd (Candace) Blomquist of Iron Mountain, MI, Scott (Joelle Baumler) Blomquist of Green Bay, WI, Craig (Irina) Johnson of Mequon, WI, Eric Johnson of Kewaskum, WI, Seton Sibert of Reno, NV, and Sonja (Pat) Crespin of Elko, NV and her great-grandchildren, Alex and Sam Johnson and Sienna Blomquist. She is survived by her sisters, Betty (Obe) Doan of Las Vegas, NV, Carol Cootware of Kingsford, MI, sisters-in-law Myrtle Jones of Iron Mountain, Carmella "Candy" Jones of Tacoma, WA, Bonnie Jones of Kingsford, and Effie Jones of Tyler, TX, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 26, from 10 – 11am at First Baptist Church Funeral services will follow at 11 am at the church. Pastor Aaron Miller will officiate. Burial will be in in Cemetery Park.
