Ruth Saxon

IRON MOUNTAIN - Ruth D. Saxon, 83, of Iron Mountain passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford. She was born Feb. 3, 1926, daughter of the late Gust and Matilda (Ostrom) Gustafson. Ruth attended school in Felch through the 11th grade and graduated with the Kingsford High School class of 1944. On July 12, 1947, she married Wayne Saxon at First Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain. He preceded her in death in 1974. A lifelong resident of the area, Ruth worked in food service at the V.A. Hospital. She was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church and was actively involved in many capacities including the choir, church Circle, quilting, and Sunday school. Ruth truly enjoyed spending time with her family. Her children and grandchildren were the center of her life, and she loved attending her grandchildren's sporting events. She was an avid Packer and Cubs fan and loved taking rides with family and friends. Ruth is survived by her six children, Charlene (Kurt) Krafski of Florida, Shirley (Larry) Schmidt of Kansas, Nancy (Bill) Buchcuski of Iron Mountain, Jim (Sue) Saxon of Iron Mountain, Randy (Betty) Saxon of Kentucky, and Bob (Kris) Saxon of Kingsford; grandchildren, Kirk (Shannon) Robertson, Melissa (Scott) Ross, Adam (Sarah) Buchcuski, Brent (Krista) Buchcuski, Carlye Buchcuski, Liz (Scott) Hampton, Kim (Ernesto) Fernandez, Derek Saxon, Kris (Christine) Saxon, Bobbi Jo Saxon, Travis Brown, Eric Schmidt, Kristi Tucker, Amy Maki and Jarrad Maki; great-grandchildren, Hayley, Jake, Abriana, Jeremiah, Caleb, Olivia, Sydney, Colin, Madeline, Connor, Derek, Cara, Ethan, Troy, Megan, Jacob, Liam, Jackson and Nina; numerous nieces and nephews who always held a special place in her heart; two very special sisters-in-law, Vi Saxon and Helen Gustafson; and a special cousin, Irene Dishnow. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Rudy, Walter, Harold and Arnie Gustafson; three sisters, Hildur Lindstrom, Edith Michaud and Alma Hamilton; nieces, Marge (Glen) Anderson, and Marion (Del) Utgaard; two nephews, Gerald Michaud and Donald Michaud; and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Visitation will be Friday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will follow at 5 p.m. at the church. Rev. Stephen Cowen and Rev. Lee Liverance will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory.
