Ruth C. Hoffman

Ruth C. Hoffman, 92, of Kingsford, formerly of Channing, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at Optalis Health Services. Ruth was born on June 12, 1931, in Toledo, OH, daughter of the late Henry and Lillian (Johnson) Schultz. She graduated from high school in Toledo and married John Hoffman on August 26, 1950; he preceded her in death in 1988. Ruth worked as a mail carrier for several years and was a volunteer at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital for over 20 years. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Cuculi-Baraga American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post #168 of Channing & Sagola. Ruth was a dedicated caregiver to her beloved daughter, Amy, for many years. She enjoyed crafts, ceramics, working in her flower gardens and painting porcelain dolls. Ruth was a talented woodworker, building numerous bird houses around her property, and seamstress; in fact, she made her own wedding dress and all of her bridesmaids’ dresses, altered many prom and wedding dresses, sewed the groom and all the groomsmen’s vests for her granddaughter's wedding, and sewed the clothes for all the dolls she painted, to name just a few. She also enjoyed her time at the Sagola Senior Center, sharing meals and playing cards with her friends, but above all, she treasured her time spent with her family, always following her grandchildren in sports or whatever activity they pursued. Ruth is lovingly survived by her son, Jay (Beth) Hoffman of Channing; a daughter, Amy Hoffman of Carney; a daughter-in-law, Barb Hoffman of Channing; grandchildren, Matthew Hoffman (Shelly), Katie (George) Wuensch, Jolene (Kurt) Kramer, Mike Hoffman (Terra), Jenny (Todd) Roell and Laurie (Alex) Knoll; 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, John; brothers, Ronald Schultz and Robert “Butch” Schultz; a granddaughter-in-law, Sarah Hoffman, a great-grandson, Grant Hoffman and her nephew, Tim Hoffman. The family would like to thank her caregivers at Evergreen Assisted Living and Optalis for their care and support of Mom. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 17, at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. A memorial service will follow at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev.
