Rodney J. Ott, 56, of Kingsford, formerly of Randville, died Sunday, June 13, 2010, at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain. He was born Feb. 23, 1954, in Iron Mountain, son of the late John and Cecile (Sexton) Ott. Rodney graduated from North Dickinson High School in 1972, the first graduating class of North Dickinson. He joined the U.S. Army after graduating and served from 1972-1975. He worked at the Groveland Mine until it closed, and from 2002 until 2009, he owned and operated his own truck and was an over-the-road Midwest trucker. He married Jill Wuorinen on Dec. 17, 1999, in Iron Mountain. Rodney enjoyed hunting, guns, four-wheeling in the SUV and camping. He always was excited when his children and grandchildren were coming home for a visit, and he loved gatherings with family and friends. Owning his own truck and driving over the road was a lifelong dream come true and he enjoyed many trips with his wife, Jill. Rodney was also known for having a great sense of humor and he will be sadly missed by his family and friends. He was a member of the Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post 50. He is survived by his wife, Jill; six children, Kelly (Lee) Steinbrecher of Green Bay, Wis., Jason (Sarah) Ott of Lyons, Colo., Michael (Tricia) Ott of Green Bay, Amie Ott of Hubbell, John Ott at home, and Ronald James Wuorinen of Kalamazoo, Mich.; eight grandchildren, Dustin, Sabrina, Alexandra, Anthonie, Michael Jr., Tyler, Austin and Landon; one brother, Donald (Mary) Ott of Vulcan; three sisters, June (Bob) Pollock of Randville, Helen Anderson of Kingsford, and Patt Swanson of Kingsford; father-in-law, Ed Wuorinen (Carolyn Andrews), brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Debbie (David) Paskvan, Vickie (Steve) Kangas, Kellie Wuorinen, Jeffrey (Liz) Wuorinen, and Laura Wuorinen; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by infant twin siblings, Joyce and Lawrence Ott; his mother-in-law, Helen "Mimi" Wuorinen; and two brothers-in-law, Dean Anderson and Wayne Swanson. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Eric Miller will officiate. Burial will be in the Channing Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael, Jason, and John Ott, Dustin Steinbrecher, Steve Kangas, Dave Paskvan, and Earl "Butch" Henderson. The Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post 50 will conduct military graveside honors.
