Robert Wagner

Robert C. Wagner, 78, of Hardwood, died Monday, July 1, 2013 at the home of his son in Hardwood. He was born on August 6, 1934 in Wheeler, WI, the son of the late John and Esther (Gulseth) Wagner. Bob graduated from Felch High School in 1952 and attended Coyne Electrical School . On August 11, 1956, he married Ruth Schollin at Mission Covenant Church in Foster City. Bob ran a dairy farm until he was call to serve in the U.S. Army from 1957-1960, where he was stationed at Fort Lewis, WA. Following his military service, he moved back to the family farm. From 1964-1966 Bob worked construction in Chicago, where he got his Carpenters Card. He then moved back to Foster City in 1966, and started working construction for Champion, Inc. In 1980 he moved to his home in Hardwood. Bob took his Master Commercial Carpenter Exam through American General Contractors in June of 1990, where he was one of two people in Michigan and one of fifty-two people in the nation to pass the exam on first attempt. He worked for Champion, Inc. for over thirty years, retiring as a Superintendent in 1993. After his retirement he raised Christmas trees and helped his son, Jon, raise ginseng. Bob was dedicated to his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He was his grandchildren's biggest fan, attending many of their athletic events. He was an avid hunter and baseball fan, cheering for the Detroit Tigers. Bob was member of the Carpenters Union Local 1510 and the Eastern Dickinson Sportsmen's Club. Bob is survived by his wife Ruth, three children Steven (Tina) Wagner of Foster City, Kris Moore of Saginaw, and Jon (Tammy) Wagner of Hardwood, three sisters Violet Pearson of Norway, Alice Badgett of Escanaba, and Barbara (Karl) Bosk of Escanaba, six grandchildren Stacee (Nate) Anderson of Foster City, Schollin (Ray) Johnson of Milwaukee, Damon Wagner of Hardwood, Derek Wagner of Hardwood, Jared Wagner of Foster City, and Devin Wagner of Hardwood, four great grandchildren Alex Johnson, Annika Johnson, Samuel Anderson, and Brianna Anderson and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother Dick Wagner, one sister Opal Richards, one niece Janis Ann Wagner, one nephew Zackary Badgett, and three brothers-in-law Roy Pearson, Jack Badgett, and John Richards. Visitation will be Fri. from 1-4pm at Mission Covenant Church in Foster City. Funeral services will be at 4pm at the church, Rev. Carl Hammer will officiate. Burial will be in Foster City Cemetery.
