Richard Nocerini

Richard M. Nocerini, 91, of Iron Mountain, died Mon. Jan. 31, 2011 at Northstar Health System in Iron River. He was born on Aug. 27, 1919, the son of the late Angelo and Katherine (Carollo) Nocerini. Richard served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He worked for the Chicago-Northwestern Railroad for many years as a track supervisor. Richard married Delores Carollo on Sept. 16, 1950 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. The couple enjoyed sixty years of marriage. He graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1973, with his daughter Susie. Richard was a member of the Chicago-Northwestern Veteran’s Association, the Knights of Columbus Bishop Baraga Council 1585, and the Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post #50. He was also a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Church. Richard served as a Boy Scout Leader and a leader of the 4-H Hi-riders. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, taking them hunting and fishing. Richard made igloos and skating rinks for his family. He liked to go snowshoeing and snowmobiling. He also enjoyed cooking and gardening. He is survived by his wife Delores, two daughters Jean (Bill) Warp of Crystal, MN, and Susie (Mick) Flaminio of Kingsford, two sisters Cele Johnson of Clinton, MI and Virginia Beitel of Kingsford, four grandchildren Shane Flaminio, Dawn (Igor) Kruhak, Chris (Nikki) Mapps, and Gabe Mapps, six great grandchildren Taylor and Logan Flaminio, Ethan Mapps, and Emmi, Cade, and Tate Kruhak, sisters-in-law Eleanor (Paul) Larson, Betty Welcher, and Barb Carollo, and many nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his daughter Bonnie Nocerini and his brother Peter Nocerini. Visitation will be Thurs. from 10:30am-12:15pm at Tondin-Ross & Freeman Funeral Home. The Knights of Columbus will recite the Rosary at 12:15pm Thurs. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 1pm Thurs. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Msgr. James Kaczmarek will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be at Dickinson County Memorial Gardens. Graveside military rites will be accorded by the Uren Cooper Johnson American Legion Post 50. Pallbearers will be Shane Flaminio, Chris Mapps, Gabe Mapps, Mick Flaminio, Bill Warp, Igor Kruhak, and Paul Larson. In lieu of flowers, memorial s can be made to Alzheimer’s Association.
