R. Burke

Colleen R. Burke, 82, of Kingsford, died Monday, May 3, 2010, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital. She was born on July 19, 1927, in Oconto Falls, Wis., the daughter of the late Patrick and Myrtle (Gregerson) Hyland. Colleen graduated from Kingsford High School in 1945. She worked as a bookkeeper for Montgomery Wards, Dr. G. G. Jacobs Office and Fornetti Dental Clinic. She was a very active member and past officer of the local Royal Neighbors of America. Colleen enjoyed knitting and was part of the shawl ministry at Maryhill Manor, while she resided there. She helped to organize a Wii Bowling League at Hyland Nursing Home and enjoyed bowling with her new found friends there. She also enjoyed baking. Colleen is survived by her four sons, Kenneth (Dorothy Moddie) Burke of Kingsford, CR (Maureen McAuliffe) Burke of Chino Hills, Calif., William (Lynn Schabo) Burke of Niagara, Wis. and Gary Burke of East Kingsford; grandchildren, Ken Jr. (Dawn) Burke of Kingsford, Connie (Michael) Pelletier of Iron Mountain, Jeremy (Shannon) Burke of Redondo Beach, Calif., Elizabeth (Noah) Gilchrist of Chino Hills, Calif., Brendan Burke of Mammoth Lake, Calif., Doug Burke of Fort Myers, Fla., Paul Burke (U.S. Navy) serving in Great Britain, and Mary Ann Burke of Atlantic Mine; great-grandchildren, Brian and Samantha Burke, Jared and Alexis Pelletier, and Sydney Gilchrist; and a nephew that she helped raise, John (Judy) Scanlon of Oconto. Colleen was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Truman Burke on Oct. 22, 2009. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Robert Paul Burke; two brothers, Kenneth Hyland and Nathianel Nelson; two sisters, June Nelson and Nadine Scanlon; and a stepsister, Rose Bertolini. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Kingsford Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. James Danielson to officiate.
