Melvin Daryl Elsey

Melvin "Mel" Daryl Elsey, 40, of Felch, MI, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 6, 2012. Mel was born June 15, 1972 in Detroit, Michigan, son of Daryl and Rose Elsey. He was raised in Howell, Michigan where he attended and graduated from Howell High School in 1990. Upon graduation of high school, Mel moved to the Felch area with his parents to help them establish their new business, LC's Tavern. Mel also held various positions in the restaurant industry but what he loved doing the most was tending bar for his dad. Mel was a son, a brother, a nephew, an uncle and a good friend to many, but the role he was most proud of was being a father to his son, Breydin. The two of them had a special relationship and they enjoyed being together. Mel and Breydin especially enjoyed going for 4-wheeler rides, bowling, trips to the park in Felch and just spending time with one another. Breydin was the light of Mel's life and he adored him. As a child, Mel loved fishing with his dad, Daryl, and going on camping trips with his parents to the Upper Peninsula. Mel was a great conversationalist and enjoyed being in the company of people. He was witty and well-liked by everyone. He enjoyed tending bar at LC's Tavern, playing a good game of cribbage, and beating his dad at pool. He served up drinks along with smiles and laughs. Mel was artistic and was skilled at drawing and watercolor. He also had a great love for music from all generas and was gifted with a beautiful singing voice. Mel was a good-hearted person and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Mel is survived by his parents, Daryl and Rose Elsey; his son, Breydin; his brother, Robert Roseliep; his sisters, Cynthia Monarch, Sheila Lawrenson, Beth Tiberio, Teresa Elsey and Jill Benavidez. He is also survived by Breydin's mother and close friend, Ame' Trumbell, as well as his extended family, Ryan Oman, Les and Bonnie Trumbell, Laura (Dan Flattery) Trumbell and Jill Trumbell. He is also survived by his good friend, Mark Koivu. Mel is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mel was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Hazel Elsey, his aunt, Melva Parsons and cousin Pat Parsons. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the volunteers on the Nordic and Beacon ambulance teams. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 11, 2012 from 3:00pm-6:00pm at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. The funeral service will immediately follow at 6:00pm. Rev.
