Mary Nord

Mary Ann Nord, 72, of Kingsford, passed away on Monday, June 18, 2012, surrounded by her loving family and comforting dog, after a long, courageous and inspiring struggle with pulmonary fibrosis. She was born on October 23, 1939, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Andrew and Helen (Kassin) Legault. She graduated from Kingsford High School in 1957. Mary Ann was a lifelong resident of the area, although she enjoyed wintering in Florida and Arizona with her husband, Douglas Nord, whom she married on June 21, 1958, at the American Martyr's Catholic Church in Kingsford. Today would have been the couple's 54th wedding anniversary. She cherished her time at home raising her daughters and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as helping her husband with their business, Hometowne Lumber in Kingsford. Mary Ann was a member of the Iron Mountain/Kingsford Jaycettes and the Pine Grove Country Club. She loved spending time with family, friends and especially her grandchildren in many different ways, including the family's traditional Sunday night "Pizza Night," watching the Packers and Michigan State basketball, playing fantasy football, shopping, and golfing. She often joked when her children were grown, "Golfing was my job," and it was one which she did well, making three holes in one. In recent years, she especially enjoyed following her nephew, Chad Hord, and the Chad Hord Off-Road Racing Team compete in The Off-Road Championship series. Mary Ann is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Doug Nord, of Kingsford; daughters Lisa (Marty) Fittante of Kingsford and Robyn (Jim) Nord-Goldthrope of Curtis; grandchildren Brad (Mindy) Wender of Kingsford, Morgan Wender of Chicago, Alexa Nord-Bronzyk (Sidi Tangera) of Grand Rapids, Dane Bronzyk of Iron Mountain, Morgan (Luke) Shilling of Tampa, Florida, Dane Goldthorpe of Curtis; great-grandchildren Lane and LillyAnn Wender of Kingsford; brothers and sisters: Wilfred (Marge) Legault of Waukesha, Wisconsin, Tony (Darlene) Legault of Port Austin, Michigan, Donald (Donna) Legault of Iron Mountain, Ray LeGault of Kingsford, Marcella (Carmen) Izzo of Iron Mountain, and Helene (Earl) Rappi of Kingsford; many special nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Schmoopie. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, James Legault. Visitation to remember the life of Mary Ann Nord is scheduled for Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. A funeral service to celebrate her life will follow at 6:00 pm at the funeral home. Fr. Joseph Gouin will officiate. In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established in her memory.
