Mary H. Mainville

Mary H. Mainville 94, of Kingsford, passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at home surrounded by her loving family.. She was born on October 2, 1919 in Niagara, WI. the daughter of the late Sylvester and Margaret (Bal) Kososki. Mary was raised in Niagara and attended school there. She graduated from Niagara High School with the class of 1938. Mary was Married to Garland Mainville on July 10, 1948 in Iron Mountain. Together, they settled down in Kingsford to raise their two children. You could always find Mary in the kitchen cooking, baking bread, homemade soups and the best pasties in town. Mary and Garland owned and operated the M & J Restaurant in Kingsford for many years. She was known for her excellent cooking. When her husband became ill, she was a loving caregiver to him. She never left his side until his passing on January 19, 1992. Mary was a long time member of St. Mary Queen of Peace Church and a past member of the Guild. Her faith and the church were an important part of her life. Mary's grandchildren were the center of her life. She attended their school functions and athletic events and was proud of all of their accomplishments. Her door was always open to her family. Her family circle was complete with the birth of her great granddaughter. She loved her visits and listening to her beautiful singing. Mary was an avid Green Bay Packer fan, she enjoyed going to the casino, playing cribbage with her son and never missed a night without watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. She loved spending time at the family camp in Channing, Walking in the woods, picking raspberries to make jam and watching her two grandsons enjoy the outdoors. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Garland; son in law, Chuck Carlson; brothers, Paul, John, Joe and Henry Kososki; sisters, Bernice Visintainer, Helen Darne and Stella Bolek. Mary is survived by her daughter, Diane Carlson of Kingsford; her son, Gary Mainville of Iron Mountain; three grandchildren, Steve (Janet) Mainville of Holland, MI, Matthew (Kim) Mainville of Iron Mountain and Courtney Carlson of Kingsford; great granddaughter, Olivia Mainville of Holland; sisters, Sophia Jacobsen of Pennsylvania, Cecelia (Bob) DePas-Green of Arkansas; sister in law, Lois Rice of Kingsford; brother in law, Bernard Mainville of Kingsford; many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Friday, March 21, 2014 from 10:00-11:00am at the St.Mary Queen of Peace Church in Kingsford. Funeral services will be at 11:00am Friday at the Church. Fr. Michael Woempner will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Our mother was a loving and caring person. Her family meant everything to her. The beautiful memories of her will live on forever in our hearts. She will be sadly missed by her family. The family would like to thank the Dickinson County Cancer Unit and a special thank you to her two nephews, Bruce and Mike Darne for all their visits with Mom.
