Mary Hill

Mary Hill KINGSFORD - Mary Hill, 91, of 528 Waverly St., Kingsford, died Sunday, April 9, 2006, at Hyland Nursing Home in Iron Mountain. She was born Jan. 8, 1915, in Amberg, Wis., daughter of the late Gardner and Ada Mae (Whaley) Briggs. Mary was a 1933 graduate of Kingsford High School and resided in this area for most of her life. She married Willard Hill on Oct. 10, 1935, in Iron Mountain. He preceded her in death on Jan. 5, 1996. Mary was a member of Cornerstone Community Church. She enjoyed ceramics and was an avid quilter. Mary made quilts for all of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends. She won the grand champion award and several blue ribbons on quilts she entered in the county fair. Mary loved writing children's stories. She wrote and illustrated books for all of her grandchildren. Mary also enjoyed going to Family Ties and entertaining people by singing the "Burglar Song." She is survived by four daughters, Marjorie Willis (fiance, Mel Johnson), Donna (Heber) Mack, and Nancy (Peter) D'Alberto, all of Iron Mountain, and Judith (Richard) Metzing of Shreveport, La.; a brother, John (Thelma) Briggs of Portland, Ore.; 12 grandchildren, Michael (Tammy) Willis, Jeffrey (Faith) Willis, Jonathan (Kathy) Willis, Mark (April) Willis, Gregory Mack, Laurie (John) Steele, Cynthia (Brian) Hord, Peter (Iris) D'Alberto Jr., Paul (Jayne) D'Alberto, Steve (Wendy) D'Alberto, Shawna (Dennis) Davis and Darren Metzing; and 26 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Arvin and Edward; three sisters, Muriel, Bulah and Jessica; and a son-in-law, James Willis. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Thursday at Immanuel Baptist Church in Kingsford. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Rev. James Danielson will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Child Evangelism Fellowship.
