Marjorie L. Stephens

Marjorie LaVerne Stephens, 91, of Iron Mountain, MI died Sunday, October 25, 2015 at Manorcare HealthCare Services in Kingsford surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on October 8, 1924 in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Joseph and Ruth (Weston) Querio. Marjorie was a lifelong resident of the area and graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1943. She married Eugene Stephens on April 3, 1946. He preceded her in death on May 9, 2004. Marjorie was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Iron Mountain. Her love of life was only surpassed by the love she had for her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was their biggest sports fan and was so proud of their academic achievements. Marjorie enjoyed her casino outings, spending her summers around a campfire at their Menominee River property, and working to keep the dandelions at bay in her yard. In recent years she loved making jigsaw puzzles and playing cards with Skip-Bo and Smear topping the list. Marjorie is survived by 3 daughters; Diane Schabo of Iron Mountain; Karen (Denny) Scelonge of Iron Mountain; Donna (John) Phillips of Marquette; and Gail (Gus) Glaser who she always referred to as her 4th daughter. In addition to her daughters, Marjorie is also survived by one brother, Bernard “Crane” (Judi) Querio of Iron Mountain and one sister, Jeanette Granquist of Iron Mountain; grandchildren, Kristi (Daniel) Schabo-Putney, Kelly (Thomas) Gaucher, Kevin Nora, Kerry (Adam) Janquart, Curtis VanDusen, Michael (Brianne Johnson) Phillips, and Kirsten (Mark Roe) Phillips along with 7 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Marjorie was preceded in death by two sisters, Loretta VanNess and Alice Kanska; two sons-in-law, Paul Schabo and Kenneth Nora. Friends may call from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm Friday, October 30, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 pm at the church. Rev. Walter Reichle will officiate. Pall Bearers are Kevin Nora, Curtis VanDusen, Adam Janquart, Michael Phillips, Thomas Gaucher, Daniel Putney and Mark Roe. Burial will be in Cemetery Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dickinson County Cancer Unit Loan Closet, The Salvation Army or the First United Methodist Church.
